UCLA CSE vs. UW Seattle CSE (direct admit)

I’m a California resident and was hoping if I could get some more information on the UCLA CSE program in comparison to the UW CSE program. Values I consider heavily in my decision are undergraduate research opportunities, internship opportunities, undergraduate access, courses (plus availability), student culture, and entrepreneurship. Thank you!

I assuming you can afford the out of state tuition at UW, which is about 15K per year more than the UC’s. At the computer science graduate school level, according to US News, UW is ranked #6, UCLA is ranked #13, UCB is #1. I assume the undergraduate level is almost parallel. I hear UW’s computer science program is very competitive to get into if you are a UW student trying to get in (I heard it takes about a 3.7 GPA for admission). This is the same for many professional schools like engineering, business, etc. I am sure it is competitive getting into UCLA’s professional schools too. Congratulations for getting in UW’s CSE directly as a freshman.

If you have not been directly admitted to UCLA’s CSE program and would have to apply sometime during your sophomore year, you might want to check into how difficult it is to get in. I have a feeling, like UCB, it is difficult. Most profession schools in a big name university are usually very competitive to get in.

I know the Seattle area has many high tech companies and other great companies to work for such as Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks, Boeing, T Mobile, Nordstrom, etc., which can offer internship opportunities. UW is a large research institution like many of the UC’s and can offer research opportunities. I am sure the same for UCLA in the LA area.
