Ucla csi

Hello fellow CC'ers and UCLA students! :)

I'm trying to find something to do this summer and UCLA CSI is one of my options. Can anyone comment on the social aspects of the program? (ie. are there organized social events for students or are you totally on your own when it comes to make friends?)

I didn’t do CSI, but they were on campus at the same time as the program I was in, FSP (Freshman Summer Program). Had the absolute best time of my life and met some of my now closest friends at UCLA.

I was in the first class of CSI, and I had a great time. Its nice since all of the people in your classes will be incoming freshmen as well. CSI people will make some programs specifically for you (ice cream, arts and crafts), but you have to actually attend them to make friends. I didn’t make use of all the programs available, but I did make a couple of really good friends.

They’ll also make some “how to transition” events for you. The dorms that the CSI kids lived in was Saxon Suites, so it had an un-social nature to it. But I had CSI friends that I made during Summer Orientation or classes, so I visited them all the time. Ironically, I was probably more social in Saxon during the summer than I have ever been in De Neve Plaza during the academic year. Overall, I think the program could have been better, especially since I was in the first CSI class. I loved my experience, though.

Thanks! Has anyone here attended summer sessions at UCLA? Are there social events organized for those too?

I have taken summer sessions. There are no social events organized.

Anybody can enroll in a class for summer sessions–any UCLA student, a student from another University of California campus, a student from USC, somebody from any other university. It’s purely class; there is no social experience other than meeting people in your class.
