Ok so I’ve heard this program is near impossible to get into. I feel like I have a pretty strong portfolio but who knows? I have just have had sleepless nights of self doubt and I need some kind of response to see if I should move on with this or not. I only post this after seeing a news article on how UCLA is the most applied school in the country and people telling me it is never going to happen. Hey whatever if it doesn’t happen not a problem, I just want to know what the deal is with this program at this school, and if I even submitted a strong portfolio in the first place. Feel free to let the truth rip. I need to know what the deal is.
Here is my portfolio

and I also submitted a motion graphics project

Hi!
I just saw your post, not sure if you know whether or not you were accepted, but I would say after looking at your stuff you have a shot at it. The aesthetic certainly seems in line with artwork I have seen produced within the department. The department strongly stresses the portfolio work over any other factors for admission. And UCLA being the most applied to school in the country doesn’t have anything to do with the department of Design|Media Arts – it’s your work that matters if you apply to the DMA major. I know the acceptance rate hovers around 10 percent.
Good luck!
Hi!
I just saw your reply and I just received a letter from UCLA inviting me to the UCLA Arts open house. From what I have read this is a sort of “informal acceptance” I am just praying everything is perfect with my transcripts. I am just now going over every class I took and everything I have done that I assumed was right. I am especially worried about my foreign language since I have been told it’s ok that I took french in high school and not CC and it counts but I am still nervous and doubting myself.
What does that letter mean. I got one too. Btw. Which dept did you applied to?
Hi! I applied to the Design Media Arts program. Did you go to the open house Friday? It was very weird because there were many congratulations thrown around at the freshmen followed by a well you transfers haven’t gotten in yet but this is a good sign. Soo I mean if you went to that it pretty much seemed highly likely you will get in. If not it was just a cruel joke then. Good luck! I heard decisions are out this weekend for transfers
I called dma today, she said it is coming out this friday by 5pm
australopith: does the invitation mean we passed the portfolio review?
Hey ya it does mean we passed! It means that the art department chose us to be in their program next year and the only hang ups to acceptance now is if we have the general requirements. This is what scares me because I hope everything is solid when it comes to completing the GEs. I’ve never met with counselor that has ever been helpful so it was always me going on what info I found online. But congrats on getting that letter they said only 16 transfers got chosen out of 600+ portfolios.
