UCLA DMA Program- Transfer/Portfolio questions?

Hey,

Wondering if anyone here is in the desma program, or know about it? I’m applying to transfer this fall to D|MA from SMC and want to know what my portfolio should be like.

Currently I have some fine art pieces, 1 linocut, 1 woodcut, some graphic design, 2-3 website designs, 1 website, and I’m working on some typography in illustrator. What else should I add to strengthen my portfolio? I have some motion graphics but I don’t consider them strong pieces to add.

I’ve also interned at 2 web design studios in LA, and been involved in women of color hacker/coding workshops. (have also volunteered at film festivals and a local radio station but don’t know if I should include those as they might not be relevant).

My gpa isn’t very strong, but I’ve heard that they look at portfolio first- is there any truth to this?

I’d also like to know if there is any way to get in touch with anyone in the DMA program so I could discuss with them if I’m a good fit. – if anyone knows the best way to contact them that’d be great.

Any help would be deeply appreciated!

Hi there! I believe the portfolio is the biggest deal to them. It looks like you will have a good variety in your portfolio!
