UCLA/Downward Trend

Did anyone who got into UCLA for fall '10 or previous years have a solid gpa (3.4 or higher), but had a downward trend by the end of the fall update? Specifically, i'm asking if anyone got a C the fall before transfer but still got in?

Why did your grades go down? Was it the change from GEs to major prereqs? Dysfunctional family? Annoying room mates?

Unfortunately while I think most reasons that a record COULD get tarnished are reasonable, you’re looking at a group of people that needs to reject a lot of applicants. A 3.4 is a terrific GPA, be proud of it, if you want to try for UCLA or UCB I wish you luck!

AND YES, lots of people get Cs and I imagine lots of people with a C or two on their record have gotten into UCLA or UCB.

However, we’re not admissions reps, the average admit GPAs for UCB and UCLA are in the 3.8 range. If you were at around that for your major, and the major wasn’t impacted sure… I’d say easy! REALISTICALLY that’s the only thing we CAN say because we aren’t admissions reps lol.

Try to write a really good essay about it without acting as if you’re God’s gift to man kind - try writing something interesting that lets the admissions rep peer into your head and get a good taste for your love of the subject and your personality at the same time. It’s not that hard, and will help immensely.

Believe me I’m sitting on the other side of THIS fence lol, I have a 3.27 and still want to apply to UCB (EECS of all things!)

Wow. this must have been the advice i’m looking for, thanks!
