UCLA Economics

Hello everybody!

I was wondering whether any of you, guys, know of international students who got into UCLA Econ program with a GPA in 3.6-3.79 range? Let's assume, CCC transfer with a TAP certification, good essays and solid extracurricular activities. Is that possible?

Feedback would be highly appreciated. I know only one person with a 3.7 who got into Business Econ, but I am really worried there might be a cutoff for those that have GPA below 3.8.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I am a current UCLA student and thought I might have some helpful information. I am sure you have already looked at the profile of recently admitted students and seen that the average GPA of admits is above a 3.9.

Recently there was an article in the Daily Bruin about the number of applications UCLA receives from international students and how they are viewed versus in-state students. The general point was that as a state school, the UC system/UCLA is there to serve the residents of California and therefore out of state students as well as international students will be held to a higher standard than in-state students.

I know that this isn’t the most uplifting information, but with this in mind it may be a good idea to focus on what sets you apart from the other applicants in your personal statement.

Thanks, burks4tw!

Do you have that article? I totally understand that residents are given priority, but what I mostly think about is whether UCLA has a cut-off or not. So, if it true, they will hardly take a look on the essays.
In my CC, I have talked to Honors counselor, and she had mentioned that the TAP international student with a lowest GPA admitted last year had a 3.8. Of course, it is only one school, but it would great to hear if there are any people who transferred there with a GPA lower than 3.8.

I don’t know of any hard cut offs but hopefully someone else on this forum will have some insight for you.

Good luck :)

Thank you! Two more months :)
