UCLA Electrical Engineering Admissions Question

Hi everyone.
I recently got an email (today actually) from the UCLA Electrical Engineering department regarding my invitation to the Fast Track Program. Here is the email:

Dear (JustKeepWaiting),

Thank you for applying to the Electrical Engineering Department at UCLA, which has been consistently ranked among the best in the world. Your application is currently under consideration by the admissions committee. Because of your stellar high school academic record, you are part of a select group that, if admitted, will be invited to participate in our Fast Track to Success program.

We believe that you are the type of student who will thrive in the Electrical Engineering Department at UCLA. With its outstanding student body and faculty and deep sense of community, the Electrical Engineering Department is committed to providing you the best possible undergraduate educational experience. Our academic curriculum, with an emphasis on engineering design, will give you that deep foundational knowledge and hands-on experience that you will need to be a future leader of your profession.

We urge you to visit our Fast Track website to learn more about the program and our departmental website to see examples of the incredible undergraduate research opportunities and resources available to our students.

As part of this program, you would be considered for paid undergraduate research opportunities with our faculty as early as your freshman and sophomore summers. A special faculty advisor will meet with you, as a group, at least once every month and answer any questions that you may have. You will also be encouraged to enroll in specially selected classes that will prepare you for graduate school or careers in industry.

Our location in Los Angeles and our extraordinary contacts in the engineering industry lead to remarkable opportunities for summer internships (usually in the sophomore and junior summers)! We have an excellent record of placing our students into our own and other top ranked graduate programs. Provided that your GPA at graduation is at least 3.5, you will also be eligible for our 4+1 BS/MS program which is an incredible opportunity…

We hope that you choose to be part of this elite group of students (only 20 are selected) destined to do great things for the engineering profession and society! One of our current Fast Track students will contact you via phone to describe his/her experience in the program and answer any questions that you have regarding the program, the EE department, residential life at UCLA or anything else. Please indicate your interest by replying to this e-mail so that we can reserve a spot for you in this prestigious program.

While admission decisions have not yet been finalized, we recognize the extraordinary talent and ability you have presented in your application. Final decisions will be released by UCLA Undergraduate Admission in late March. Once these decisions have been released, we very much look forward to welcoming you in the Fall 2016 at UCLA.

Sincerely yours,

Greg Pottie Abeer Alwan

I have a few questions:
-Does this mean I am accepted into UCLA? From the wording, it seems I am, but I’d like a third party opinion haha.
-Did anyone else here receive this email?
-Are there any people who received it last year who can tell me whether or not all the people who received the email were and were admitted to UCLA were allowed into the program, or if there was a secondary application to be accepted into it?

P.S. Here is the link that they gave me:

Thanks in advanced and happy waiting!

@JustKeepWaiting I wish I knew the answer but unfortunately I don’t for sure. My best guess is that you have been recommended for admission into UCLA; however that admission is not finalized (“While admission decisions have not yet been finalized”) and might be contingent on other things (e.g. receipt of transcripts).

I do agree; presuming you haven’t received any other letters from UCLA, the letter here does seem ambiguous. For example, I received a similar letter that clearly stated “Please be advised that this correspondence is not a notification of admission” within it, but then a few days later I received the admission offer. So my best advice is perhaps to wait it out, and also reply to that email confirming your interest.

@MITer94 thanks for the input. I did reply to the email, so now I’ll just keep waiting!

@JustKeepWaiting seems best. Good luck!

@MITer94 thanks!

This does read as a phenomenal sign that you will be admitted assuming you did not have bad ECs and/or essays. this is likely a likely letter.
