How much would a REALLY interesting and unique story for the personal statement that shows I'm a motivated and innovative thinker help me get into HSSEAS oos for electrical engineering when I only have mediocre/low stats? (3.75 uw, 4.35 w, 2000 sat, 800 math 2 sat, took highest math and science classes possible every year and pretty good ECs) any opinion would be helpful and appreciated! Thanks so much!

Bump!!!

Well from what I understand engineering admissions at ucla tend to be more stats based than some non engineering majors there. However, a great personal statement never hurts! It could definitely help you a lot, as I believe it helped my application a lot. Also, because I didn’t see it listed, it is recommended to take a math AND science SAT 2 in order to be admitted. And because electrical engineering rely’s heavily on physics I would try and score well on that to help yourself. Also, if the WGPA you listed is your uc gpa that is rather good. I got into EE at UCLA with a 4.15 UC gpa and a 32 ACT (34m, 34E, 33s, 25r, never even took the sat).

person415 is correct that you should take a science SAT Subject test also (see uc link below) Your SAT score is good but often engineering students find they perform even better on the ACT. If you can take it before December it can still be counted for this years application.
