<p>I was thinking about majoring in engineering. I know UC Berkeley's engineering department is very competitive and hard to get into. How is it like at UCLA? Is engineering at UCLA more competitive to get into than the letters and science department? Thanks. I am currently a high school senior.</p>

<p>Very hard and yes. Unless you’re already some genius programmer, don’t even bother.</p>
<p>If you keep at least above a 3.5 gpa after taking a certain number of the engineering prereqs, I don’t think it’s too hard to transfer in. (speaking as someone who switched into cse after a year at UCLA) At the same time, you shouldn’t pin all your hopes on it. You don’t have a good sense of how you’ll do in your college classes, you may be trying to switch at a particularly competitive time, etc.</p>
