is ucla's engineering program better than uc irvine's or is it the other way around?

ucla's engineering program is significantly more prestigious.

Not even a comparison. There is virtually no program at UCI that I'd take over UCLA. And hell, I chose a lower ranked public over UCLA engineering.

yeah ucla swallows uci in everything. it's gonna be a better experience going to ucla.

UCLA

Undergraduate Ranking:

19 overall

16 in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering

16 in Computer Engineering

13 in Electrical Engineering

18 in Environmental Engineering

17 in Materials Engineering

22 in Mechanical Engineering

Student Body:
2300 undergraduates
1300 graduate students (500 master's; 800 doctoral)

1504/5808 admits (26%)
426/1504 yield (28%)

UC Irvine

Undergraduate Ranking:

48 overall

Student Body:
2300 undergraduates
700 graduate students (250 master's; 450 doctoral)

2576/5170 admits (49%)
445/2576 yield (17%)

what about comparing ucla's engineering program to ucsd's? is ucla better?

I would say UCLA is a better than UCSD, but UCSD is still very good.

haha I didn't know UCSD's engineering ugrad population was double's UCLA's...anyway I am an UCLA EE major and it's great

prestige doesn't make as much difference in engineering as you'd think. you'll get a good paying job coming from any significant university, and i'd count uci as a significant university. i live in irvine and there are alot of engineering opportunities in the city.

how about graduate rankings for UCLA and UCSD?

I know someone that transfered last quarter from UCI to UCLA. I remember him saying that UCLA is much more challenging than UCI. But the bad thing is the 2hr classes compared to 1 hr ones at UCI.

thankx :), but is ucla's engineering atmosphere really cut-throat and competitive like ucb's, on a scale from 1 to 10, can u rate the difficulty of ucla's engineering program?

I can't really say much about UCB, because I don't personally know anyone that is an engineering major there. Cut-throat? I wouldn't say it's cut-throat, but it is competitive here at ucla. But if you know your stuff, then it shouldn't be much of a problem. Difficulty depends on how much time and effort you put in. Even if I say that the program is hard or easy, are you just gonna go to the easiest place? That's a bad reason to pick a college in my opinion.

If you have to make a decision between the two, then you're better off visiting the campuses, because you can only get so much information from US news rankings and input from other posters here.

UCB grad engineering is very hard to get in, much much harder than undergrad
they tend to like undergrad from other schools.

ucla has 2 hours classes? why?

UCLA has two-hour engineering classes to cover more material than the other UCs, as well as to weed out the students who can't handle two-hour midterms.

chaoses: the ee110 lab here is 4 hours

Between UCSD and UIUC, which one offers better education quality? I am PURELY talking about the quality of education, NOT location/fee/job opportunities?

Does anyone have comments on this? Thanks!
