I have been accepted to the school of my dreams, The University of California Los Angeles. This is more than a dream come true for me, but I wont go into that. My major is Civil Engineering and I want to excel at this in any and all possible ways. My question is, what can I do now to prepare and what can I do once attending classes at UCLA to be an extremely active and successful civil engineering student? I'm thinking about academic programs that might be offered and helpful student organizations. My goal is to graduate from UCLA knowing that I did the absolute best I could and took advantage of all opportunities given to me. I also plan to attend graduate school somewhere, and when it comes time to apply and receive acceptance/rejection letters I want to have many options in front of me.
Thank you very much for any advice you can give me. And congratulations to all transferring students reading this, all the hard work has finally paid off.

Good job man! congratulations on your acceptance to UCLA. UCLA was/is also a dream school for me. I have been accepted to both CAL and UCLA, but my dilemma is this: choosing CAL over UCLA since CAL is academically the best public University in the U.S. (as per U.S. News rankings), or going to UCLA because I think being a Bruin is cool. In the end, I realize I can't go wrong with either choice, but right now I'm seriously considering choosing CAL over UCLA. For one, Berkeley is closer to home, and secondly they have the second/third best undergraduate Mechanical Engineering program. Although, I must say that I am yet to visit either school.

lol icon...im in the same position w/ a different major.

i'm thinking CAL too...

Congratulations! Make sure that you get involved with the UCLA Chapter of ASCE.
Welcome to the UCLA ASCE web site

They have all kinds of things going on for the Civil Engineering students, including the once per year Civil Engineering conference. AT the conference they race concrete canoes, bowl with concrete bowling balls, and try to out-do each oither with their steel bridges. They also have job fairs and banquets.
ASCE Student Chapter at UCLA

Next year it is going to be held in Hawaii!
ASCE - UH MANOA

UCLA's ASCE has a lounge in Boelter Hall where you can hang out and meet other students in the major.

Make sure that you read the material before you go to class, and if you have any questions, your TA will be able to answer it in the weekly discussion section. Good Luck!

im in with civil engineering too!

i got into civil engineering as well! maybe we can all work together once we're there in the fall

If you have any specific questions about UCLA Engineering, check out the Ask Flopsy thread in the UCLA Forum. He isn't a Civil Engineering major, but he does know a lot about the Engineering school as a whole.

You guys are going to LOVE Boelter Hall. ;)

ucla is not too great a engineering school lol its just a big name. anyone know if its worth choosing ucla over ucb or ucsd in bioengineering?
