Nothing
Also Poli sci! I chose Berkeley
Nothing for me yet as well.
Hello waitlist applicants,
Hope this relates to many and inspires future applicants!
I got notified this morning that my financial aid has been awarded by UCLA at 8:30am. No updates from my email but checked my UCLA portal with an acceptance!
Major: Chemistry
UC GPA: 3.4
Extracurricular- Team USA Taekwondo Athlete, Coach, Referee, STEM Program Family Group Leader, Seal of Billteracy, Bunch of community service
2-year CCC student
Not IGETC Certified
My essays stood out and I wrote a full essay on my quarantine experience, which may have considered the final acceptance. If you guys have any questions, please let me know! I wanna give back what college confidential gave me, so feel free to ask questions!
Iām in!! I got the email at 7:34 AM. I had already submitted my SIR for UC Berkeley, but now I plan on spending more money to SIR since Iām now going to my dream school.
3.68 Pre-Psychobiology
IGETC done
Major Prep: missing 1 quarter of Biology
BTW, anyone know how to tell a school Iām no longer attending?
Congratulations guys!
@norcal57 Iām not sure about Berkeleyās portal but UCSDās gives you an option on the homepage at the very bottom to ādecline offer after accepting offerā or something like that!
Just got off the waitlist this morning!!
Major: Chemistry
GPA: 3.67
For my opt-in, I did write about a page long LOCI talking about my improvement in grades, the clubs/programs I was interested in UCLA, courses available and even mentioned a professor there. Iām not sure if they actually read this thing but I tried my best to be as specific as possible to show them my interest in UCLA and told them I would, without hesitation, accept the offer if given to me.
It says I have to make a decision by Monday, June 8th. I received an email about the decision update at 7:30 this morning and the financial aid letter came an hour later.
Iāve been lurking on this thread ever since we got the decisions back on April 24th and I want to thank you all for keeping me sane up till now. For those of you who havenāt hear back, PLEASE donāt lose hope!
And for those of you who have already gotten off, congratulations!!
ADMITTED OFF OF WAITLIST!
Major: Pre-Psych
GPA: 3.82
Pre-reqs: IP, complete by end of Spring 2020
I was originally committed to UCSD, admitted to UCD, waitlisted at CMC, and rejected to UCB, Pitzer. My LOCI was fairly brief as I mentioned my current Spring grades and some of my high-school extracurriculars and current activities. I only mentioned my HS achievements because I graduated at the end of my junior year, skipping my senior year (originally class of 2020 for high school), and was able to transfer out of CC within one year.
Iām extremely grateful that I achieved my one year goal and skipped 2 years of college.
ACCEPTED! @ 7:34am for Pre Psychology. Itās been a pleasure engaging with everyone in this thread throughout the past couple of weeks and I am keeping my fingers crossed for those who have yet to hear back.
Advice for future waitlist admits:
- Try not to stress too much about being waitlisted. Yes, easier said than doneā¦ But seriously, the college likes you as an applicant which is already a pretty cool feat, considering that UCLA is the most applied to university in the nation. Also, it is more difficult to get on the waitlist (~5%) than be accepted to the college (~19%). Not to mention, if you are accepted off the waitlist you donāt have to worry about Imposter Syndrome since youāve gone through two rounds of application reviewals lol
- What has helped me relieve some of the anxiety has been engaging with other individuals that are in a similar situation such as through this thread. Therefore, if there isn't already, create a transfer waitlist thread and connect with others.
- If UCLA is your dream school, please use all of the characters provided in the opt-in statement. I used exactly 7,000 and talked about my first experiences with the college, being involved in summer sessions, preparation for majors and aspiration to complete a double major, and used a concept in English referred to as a āreflective narrativeā to showcase how my time spent participating in activities at the college will shape who I become in the future.

Why should you be considered over someone else in your major?

Talk about programs & classes you want to take. I discussed how there were certain courses at the college that I have wanted to take that haven't been offered at my local CC. Also, name drop the classes. It is more memorable for the AO's and shows you are: 1) committed to your major 2) have a plan 3) are passionate about UCLA.

Explain how the campus makes you feel. I know, it sounds a little silly. Personally, I discussed the different pianos that are situated in different parts of the campus, Diddy Riese's, and my time attending sports events. These all evoked certain emotions that helped me craft my statement and, I believe, prioritize my application over others.

-Be genuine. Everyone is academically competent (hence why you are on the waitlist), so tell the something new about yourself. How would this contribute to the student life on campus.
Lastly, I wasn't really sure who I was going to meet when starting this thread or if it was going to be visited by anyone. Looking back at it now, It is really cool to see the different users post their stories and provide insight into the rather foreign process of being admitted off the waitlist. Again, I wish current and future waitlisted students luck on getting through this grueling process and becoming an admitted student.
P.S. Feel free to PM for advice.
Bye y'all & good luck,
transfer20!
Congratulations for all of those who got accepted!
It seems like everyoneās getting their decision in the early morning so I guess if we donāt receive it thereās no need to wait for the rest of the day? Iām pretty hopeless because Iām not seeing any Pre Bus Econ majors getting acceptedā¦ plus Iām an international oosā¦ does anyone know if intl oos have a smaller chance of getting in?
My story is actually quite dumb, but sharing for the record books and because I always love embarrassing myself:
Immediately declined my waitlist opt-in and went about my business. Or so I thought. I started to organize my acceptance letters into a binder because as a non-trad student, I was proud and honored by each acceptance. Also humbled by UCLA, so decided to include their āsoft rejectionā as well. I went to print and saw that my opt-out never registered. With a lot of personal uncertainty relating to covid19 and my family being in southern CA, I decided to opt-in to expand my options in the event that life took a turn and my husband and kids and I needed to move. My opt-in statement was kind of bitchy, if Iām being honest. It was also short and to the point about how if they value hard work, drive and someone with the ability to overcome adversity, then I was a solid choice. I then highlighted that I had 5 kids under the age of 9, an almost full time job and was a full time student pulling in a 4.0 (my first attempt at college over a decade ago massacred my GPA) quarter after quarter. Then said thanks and nothing personal.
Woke up this morning to the acceptance of the waitlist.
For the record book for next yearās waitlist:
Major: Pre-sociology
Cumulative GPA: 3.67
Major GPA: 3.9
IGETC: Done
Test Scores: none
ECs: none, no time. But created opportunities in my working experience to devote time and resources to causes Iām passionate about (social justice and community responsibility).
Transfer student from Bay Area CCC
Congratulations to all getting acceptances. I have not heard anything back as a bus-econ major. Hoping I get in and best of luck to all of you.
Looks like Econ majors havent heard back. Today looks like mostly Sociology and Chemistry Majors
@refusetosettle @4usion Congrats! Can I ask where your CC is? Iām from Bay Area CC and my major is biochem. Still waiting!
Hoping to get off the waitlist but seeing that Iām a nursing major and thereās only 10 spaces available for transfers Iām slowly losing hope as time goes by. UCLA is my dream nursing school so Iām so sad but itās just how it is I guess
Hello, Iāve been checking up on this thread since the initial release date 04/24. Today I received an email from UCLAās Financial Aid regarding the the Provisional Award Letter (PAL) at 8:30AM. It said ā Congratulations on your admission to UCLA!ā my heart sank and I rushed to check my portal to verify that I was admitted.
GPA: 3.29 (lol I know)
Major: Gender Studies
ADT in Sociology
Best of luck to all of you waiting anxiously. I know how you feel. I honestly didnāt think I was going to get in. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask.
Did anyone who has been accepted or opted in choose to not write a statement?
Also, I would like to add that I originally ended my fall semester of 2019 with a GPA of 3.07 and I was still offered the opportunity to be waitlisted. Dreams do come true. Stay positive!
anyone have news for Cognitive Science?
