UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

One more month everybody. Let’s all hang in there!

@8CLAP4SUP it’s kind of a month and half actually. And it makes a big difference since I feel like each day feels like a year during this application season. Lol

Good luck everyone! I’ve been feeling increasingly anxious nowadays, but it’s great to see support for each other here. If anyone knows of a forum for Fall 2019 intercampus transfers, please let me know! Here are my stats:

UC Transfer from UCR
Major: Anthropology
GPA: 3.92 (might go up slightly after Winter 2019)
UC Reciprocity: all would be completed by the end of Winter 2019 except language (does anyone happen to know how missing language would affect me because I know I can’t claim full uc reciprocity which is what I didn’t do with Berkeley when they asked)
IGETC: n/a
TAP: No

Schools Applying: UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCSD

Extracurriculars: Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Asian and Pacific Islander Student Programs Peer Mentor

Background:
Chinese-Vietnamese American
First generation student
Low income

Personal Statements: I wrote about my love-hate relationship with loneliness, my objective lack of skills/talents but weird knack at memorization, and how I learned about the importance of exploring my narrative, which changed me entirely as a person.

Alright, so like @adreezybones was saying every day feels like a year. I’m so grateful to have been able to participate in RCC’s Honors Program and utilize their TAP agreement with UCLA.

All I can say is that reading this thread has been catharsis for me as my anxiety about the admission decisions grows daily!

Also, the anonymity of the personal insight questions whilst being read was interesting to me; I wonder if those tend to be the more decisive factors rather than straight statistics.

In my personal insight questions I talked about my struggles with mental illness, alcoholism and addiction at a young age and while a freshman at Florida Atlantic University. I touched on the important lessons of resilience and willingness to keep trying until one succeeds. Additionally, since I graduated high school in 2010 and went straight to FAU, I discussed the dichotomy between my prior academic performance while stuck in the cycle of addiction (and how it was not indicative of me as an intellectual) and my performance since returning to college in California, sober; I’ve been a 4.0 student since enrolling at RCC and taking Honors courses.

Hey everyone! I know now is a super anxious time while we wait so I hope you’re doing well and taking good care of yourselves (personally I’ve been dealing with the stress by watching a ton of anime and doing a lot of facemasks haha)

Here are my stats:

CCC Transfer
GPA: 3.45
Major: Linguistics & Computer Science
IGETC: Finished by Spring 2019
Prereqs: Finished

Extracurriculars: Worked throughout time at cc, took care of a parent with cancer, tutoring, built and started an online business on my own, hackathons; awarded for work on a sign language to English translation software

Personal statement: I think they were pretty good. I wrote about my love of programming and language, how I went deaf my first semester of college and overcoming that (hopefully that explains my meh GPA…) and my plans for graduate school.

Also applied to UCI, UCSB, and UCSD

I saw a few other people here who also applied for linguistics + comp sci and a few people from my community college! Best of luck to all of you <3

Hey guys, I have questions about the PL courses that I listed in my application. I listed Calc 4 as my planned in Spring, though it is not a requirement for my major (Computer Science) but earlier today, the class was full and I was put on the waitlist. Should I contact the AO about my situation? Fingers crossed I could get in to the class.

@junoklein not until you know for sure if you’re enrolled in the class or not

Hi guys! I received my winter grades 3 weeks ago and i wanted to know if i should email them before updating my grades. I’m afraid that it’ll show on my application that I submitted my TAU in march if i end up updating my winter grades. And do they take winter grades into consideration?

Update on TAU. It’s noted that your first entry was in January.

I forgot to mention why I dropped a class. Should I update my TAU as well? Or is it not worth the risk of updating the TAU right now for that reason.

Hi guys is anyone on here an Iranian studies/ jewish studies or a linguistics major?

Hey is anyone else in TAP or honors? If you took an honors special contract course did you list it on the application as honors or just the regular course?

Hey everyone  I wish everyone the best of luck during this difficult period of awaiting for the decisions!
I’ve applied to UCLA, UCI, UCD, UCR as well as the cal states (CSUF, CPP, CPSLO)

Does anyone know what majors are available to double major or minor in as Business Economics applicant? If I get accepted as a transfer, I know you cannot double major (not sure about minors?) within the school of engineering and applied science, but I’m not sure about other departments.

@sleepypolarbear Ling+CS Represent! Good luck! Our GPAs seem to be in range from the transfer profile admitted numbers so hopefully things work out for us!

@mpineda3247 @sleepypolarbear I almost applied for Ling&CS but I changed to communications last minute, I wish I stuck with L&CS it seems so cool! I’m sure you guys will get in, good luck
