UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

UCLA Admissions posted on twitter that they’re “anticipating decisions sometime next week”

@misseskite UCLA Admissions on Twitter posted that they will be releasing next week

@misseskite refer to GoodAfternoonSir comment #2854 on page 191.
He got replied by UC saying they will release it on april 24.

If we are finishing the IGETC pattern this semester, we get should go certified right after the end of this spring semester, right?

@pandaman115 Yes. At my college, when we apply to have official transcripts sent (after graduation) there is an option to have IGETC certification notated on the transcript

@holatomm thanks!!

Hey everyone, I’ve been reading all this about being TAP certified and the acceptance rate being 80-90% but none of my counselors even told me that was available to me. Do you guys think I still have a chance of getting in without being TAP certified?

@Blonded1 Of course, It’s a bonus, not a requirement, but it is a really nice bonus. Plenty of people get in without it. I don’t think that as a percentage of all applicants that there are that many TAP certified people. This forum just has a strong selection bias towards encountering those types of people.

@Blonded1 Of course you will :)! Don’t worry about TAP. It doesn’t guarantee admission to applicants. It just gives priority for students who are in the program. Based on the TAP page of my CC, it’s more of a 70-80% higher chance (it differs for every CC I’m assuming). There are plenty of students who have been accepted without being TAPed. As long as you have a great GPA, ECs, etc, you should be good to go.

You still have the same chance as the TAP certified people as long as your GPA is stellar (+essays have to be good)

Yay next weweeweweek

@Jiminlovee I think it is pretty widely agreed that ceteris paribus, tapping increases your chances of acceptance significantly. I would agree that probably some of the high acceptance rates of the TAP program is due to various sorting mechanisms, but at least at my CCC, you only need a 3.1 or 3.2 to apply TAP to non-impacted majors, and a 3.4 to apply to impacted majors, which isn’t that extreme. The CCC honors programs also tend to care a lot about what the acceptance rate is for the TAP program since they’re essentially giving you a “guarantee of quality” so to speak, so the program is meaningful enough to have the slack to drop the GPA standard to that lower bound.

It is by no means necessary or anything, but it’s a large advantage.

@sleepypolarbear would you please post the link?

You need to apply for IGETC certification at your CCC. Online form or in person. It’s separate from a transcript request although it may be entered on your transcript or mailed separately. Key is you need to request it when you finish your final term.

everyone keeps talking about the portals going down the day before a release, but Berkeley and Davis are both releasing tomorrow and so far neither of their portals have gone down. is it possible the portal wont go down at all?

@imstressin The portal can go down the day of. UCLA portal went down at 10am last year the same day they released decisions.

@GoodAfternoonSir I don’t think your school counselor misguided you. My CC doesn’t allow you to take more than 1 honors course in the last semester either. I think the rules differ from college to college. Good luck, though!

Thanks for that info @purplewhale2297

I emailed Ms. Sun and told her the information she shows is incorrect and that UCLA has now confirmed it via twitter. She responded… YES

@sleepypolarbear @GoodAfternoonSir what is the @ of the Twitter account you got the info from? I just checked @UclaAdmissions and couldn’t find any tweet like you said. I hope this doesn’t come off as accusatory- I just want to know where I should be looking LOL ?
