@AeroDE Since i got rejected from UCB i doubt i’ll get into UCLA to be honest.
I guess my real chance is for USC now. Sigh…

@Howardcao999 If you call admissions, their voicemail says after 5pm.
@GoodAfternoonSir is there a chance for you to appeal for Hass?
Yeah, having other options is definitely good
@GoodAfternoonSir If you don’t mind me asking, what were your stats?
@AeroDE Actually yes, I am going to appeal to Haas. I have a lot to talk about but I need to make sure my appeal statement is absolutely perfect.
In my student portal, Appeals are stated as below:
“Appeals completed by May 15 will be considered on time and we will do our best to reply by July 1, 2019. In the appeal form, you must provide significant new information (i.e., semester grades, additional achievements) for us to consider”.
With this in mind. First, I am going to finish all 10 of my classes this semester early and receive Straight A’s in them. I’m already expected to have A’s in every class as I have high marks in every one of them, I’ll just finish the classes earlier and I’ve already spoken to all of my professors for having me finish them ahead of time. I’ll talk about this in my appeal.
I will also talk about how I had to pay 1776 a class for two classes to take a major pre-requisite (Calculus 1 and 2) at a 4 year university because my community college district only allowed me to take maximum 25 units per semester with a petition, so I didn’t have enough room to take the pre-reqs in my community college and I wasn’t willing to stay another semester just for these classes. The reason, why I took so many units, to begin with, was the fact that I was on track towards earning 7 Associate Degrees before transferring to a 4 year, and I’ve been successfully approved for all 7.
I will also talk about some discrepancies in my application that occurred due to reasons that occurred out of my own control, such as my honors coordinator not certifying TAP despite completing the requirements (I double checked and did my research at UCLA and you guys were correct about being able to be TAP certified).
I will also talk about some family circumstances that have influenced me to go to UC Berkeley in general, such as my mom isn’t able to travel to lets say Los Angeles with me to USC, she needs me and I cannot abandon her as my father passed away and isn’t able to provide without my support. She has severe heart problems and medical issues that need to be addressed, so I have to be close to her for her wellbeing.
So far I have gotten responses from 2 professionals who are willing to review my statements when they’re finished. I’ve also asked Mrs. Sun to help me with the overall process and I’ve heard her success rates for appeals are high.
@californiatopaz I’m a sociology major too! I didn’t apply to Berkeley though. What’s your GPA?
I just got waitlisted for Berkeley as a philosophy major…I didn’t want to go there because my dream school is UCLA, and I don’t want to move up north. Is there still a chance I could get into UCLA? I’m really nervous because I didn’t get accepted and philosophy at ucb and UCLA have almost the same acceptance rate. UCBs Gpa is actually a little lower for philosophy which is making me so nervous because I didn’t get in. What are your opinions?
@cam34568 do you have TAP for ucla or prereqs completed?
I don’t have TAP and I have all but one prerequisites completed, they didn’t offer it at my cc.
Popping in with one more Regents question sorry.
First, congrats to those who received the invitation to apply!! Anyone else confused about the application process though? I filled out the entire General Application but never saw where I was supposed to write the supplemental Regents essay?
@GoodAfternoonSir Just an experience.
I actually qualified for 7 degrees too, 3 AS and 4 AA but because of my counselor comments, I only listed 3 such as I need AS Accounting to find a job in order to support my family while pursuing Bachelor degree. I attend Pathway to Law because my final goal is to join a law school after getting Bachelor. So I explained to them I studied a lot not because I did not know what I want, I instead know exactly how to prepare finance for my plan.
But so far, most of my counselors still commented that HAAS does not like the student who studied too many units, 80 seems to be ok but not more than that. Because they believe that student did not have a good strategy at the beginning and that is not a character a leader should have.
Today when I got rejected, they only listed that reason. So I now believe in what my counselors said as they have a lot of experience in this process.
Regards,
@Bibihcmvn I only have 62 units including AP and got rejected. I did not finish the second English for Haas. 3.71 from Pepperdine.
@cam34568 did you have the prereqs for ucb?
@GoodAfternoonSir thats good that you gonna review your appeal through professors and mssun(idk about her rate in appealing).
Also, give a read into this thread when you get some time! I’m a stem major and not an expert in this, but just saw someone had posted this. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/519589-haas-facts-reveal.html might be helpful
@Bibihcmvn Thank you for your insightful comments,
Sometimes, when we focus on other goals we may forget the main reason why we’re pursuing them in the first place.
I’m happy that I’ve earned these associate degrees, however, I cannot deny that once I’ve earned a bachelor’s these associates became a relic. Throughout these two years, I have become a whole different person. I wasn’t academically gifted in any shape or form and I’m still not. I’ve received 24 substandard grades during my high school years, 12 F’s and 12 D’s. By the brim of my brow, I was able to graduate high school by taking some tests that I’ve barely passed to receive enough credits to graduate. After reflecting upon myself and thinking what my father would have said if he was alive, I decided to enroll in community college and push myself to my limits so I can become a stronger student and person. The main reason why I’ve taken so many units during a single semester (30 last semester, 29 this semester) was so I could prepare myself for the rigorous curriculum practiced by UC Berkeley. The associate degrees are just a “side-effect” resulting from taking so many classes. We’re no stranger to the fact that UC Berkeley is an extremely competitive school, and the efforts that are demanded by a student is extremely high, in other words, the school isn’t for the faint-hearted. However, if you are able to be academically successful at Berkeley, you can succeed anywhere, as they compel you to overcome many obstacles so that you may become stronger. I really admire that mindset and I too want to make myself stronger each and every day. I enjoy being challenged, and I truly believe that I belong at Berkeley. I enjoy the strenuous days of studying for hours and hours at a desk just so I can learn something new.
With this in mind, I will try to enroll in this college one last time and see if they are willing to accept me. If not that is perfectly fine, as I will have cleared my conscience and know that I have done everything in my power to portray myself 100%. Plus, I will definitely apply to Berkeley Law school after getting my bachelors from the college I attend in the fall.
Haha hey guys! Looks like some of us got accepted for Irvine but rejected for Berkeley. And it also seems like we’re okay with Berkeley bc we all live closer to Irvine? Honestly same lmaooo. Definitely nervous anbout UCLA though bc Berkeley didn’t accept some us. It’s all good though, guess we’ll wait and see for UCLA.
@RoastedHamm I have a 4.0
@AeroDE I totally agree with the quote you cited because many professors told me that when I asked then what I should write about. I have a lot of EEC but it suprised me that American people (at least the one who evaluates us to be potential successful applicant) does not recognize the same way. Then I just focus on writing one particular event to demonstrate my personality instead of explain too many thing about Why, What. But I admit that my life is out of control in college as I got bad counselors at the beginning who underestimated my talent to gave me a educational plan for non-traditional students come back to school just to study what is easiest to get a certificate. Thats why I had to study a lot of extra when I started to understand about Transfer. Then Haas actually require different from other UC but the most important is those courses does not match my other degrees so that I had to took extra 3 courses just to fulfil the 7 breadth requirement of HAAS.
Anyway, my counselors - she actually the Director of EOPS program - mentioned me about the risk to be denied from top UCs as they do not like the student take many different degree at community college at the same time. It will be different if you double major in uni, but not in CCC. I think my explanation could not hide the truth thar my academical strategy was bad at the beginning, not much different with a student who did not know what he wanted.
Accepted into CAL as a philosophy major 3.82 GPA. Oof do you guys think getting into CAL is a good enough for UCLA? Anyone else in this situation?
I think it’s nuts that UCB’s average gpa for philosophy is lower than UCLA’s. Cal is ranked higher in philosophy and has more prestige than UCLA in this field. Are you into epistemology is that why you were leaning towards UCLA’s philosophy department?
