UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

I am a nervous wreck… Someone send help please haha…

I don’t really think I’m as qualified as the rest of you, especially as a psychology major, and I’m trying my best to stay positive, but it’s just so hard today. Got rejected by UCB, and I honestly didn’t care too much about the school, yet I’m still disappointed.

I guess I just feel like a disappointment. But my sisters just reminded me that no news is good news, like, all I can do is stay positive and I feel like that’s the atmosphere on here, which I’m incredibly grateful for. I really hope I get into UCLA. Everything I’ve done in the past two years has been in hope of transferring into their psychology program.

My stats (restated because I lost my previous comment haha):
GPA: 3.6~3.7
GE’s: completed (except for senior seminars)
UCLA Psych reqs: FInished FALL 2018

I honestly don’t know my chances of getting in because I’ve been getting mixed responses from my friends. Some say that I’ve got a chance, some say that my stats aren’t good enough. And some have said that because I got rejected by UCB, I’ll have a higher chance of getting into UCLA… I don’t even know if that makes sense haha.

Oh my goodness, I rambled. I’m so sorry. But basically, I’m grateful for all of y’all and your kind words. It’s helping me keep a smile on my face, and I’m truly grateful. I also hope that this coming Wednesday brings good news for all of us! I won’t be able to check my email until after finals because I don’t want my focus to be drawn away from my finals (studying at HKU right now haha).

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!! FIGHTING!!!

@anenglishmajor Congrats on getting into Berkeley! What are your stats? I think we’re the only English majors on this thread lol

After getting accepted to UCI, UCSC, and UCSB, I wasn’t prepared for the rejection I received from Cal yesterday. In my mind I’d already assured myself that Cal probably wasn’t the best financially speaking and if given the choice I’d probably take UCLA over Cal, but now I’m unsure if I even consider my chances of getting into UCLA. And for the record, I cannot stand it when I mention SB to anyone the only response is “that’s a party school”

@bendestraw Don’t worry!! You got into some amazing schools, so don’t even stress about the whole Cal thing.

And yes, SB’s reputation precedes itself and many consider it a “party school” which is, honestly, only true if you participate in the parties. Their academics have gotten a lot better these past couple of years, so I’m totally with you about not being able to stand it when people just refer to UCSB as the “party school.”

And honestly, there have been a lot of studies and articles that state that the entire UC system works pretty closely with one another to choose which students they want. And I guess I can say that I’ve seen it in action as well?

See, it’s assumed that UCB and UCLA split their prospective students equivalently, meaning that, if UCB wants a student more, they give the student the acceptance letter while UCLA has to reject, and vice versa. It seemed to be the case for all my classmates when we were applying back in high school. It was very rare that I saw someone accepted to both schools. But please don’t quote me on this haha.

Like many of you I’m also feeling down about UCB because I really want to get into UCLA. Thinking about calling Monday to ask about why I was rejected. If it’s my grades then I really can’t do anything and I accept that .
However I think I made a mistake when declaring how I satisfied my foreign language requirement for Breadth (since I didn’t do Igetc). I wrote that I took 2 Spanish for Native Speakers classes (UC transferable) but apparently, according to assist, they only accept Spanish 2 for that. I didn’t take Spanish 2 because it wouldn’t challenge me as much as a native speaker class where we learn more about grammar, etc.
Funny thing is, I could’ve satisfied my foreign language requirement with my SAT2 score in Spanish that is in the 700’s (they require a 590). @Ohm888 , in your opinion, if they tell me I didn’t satisfy foreign language breadth, would this be grounds for appeal? I technically did satisfy the foreign language, but I just didn’t note it in the supplemental application in the way that demonstrated this.

I’ve talked to multiple people who didn’t get into Cal but got into UCLA, and vice versa! Don’t lose hope y’all

Anyone on here a communications major? I’m super nervous bc it’s an 11% transfer acceptance lol

I’m a sociology major with a 4.0 GPA, yet I’m still so nervous about the possibility of getting rejected.

@studentagain it sounds like a good appeal. Mention both.

@omojimin - Hey! I got rejected from Berkeley yesterday too, I’m a psych major as well. I’m kinda sad about getting rejected, but it’s okay though; it’s not my first choice lol. Psychology is so competitive at Berkeley, there was an 8% transfer admit rate for psych majors last year. Hopefully we both get accepted to UCLA! Just gotta wait and find out in a few days lol.

@StudentAgain Hi there. I’ll be appealing for Berkeley too. We should Dm each other and help each other out in this overall process if you’d like. I’m thinking of submitting my appeal on the 10th of May. What about you?

Thank you @Ohm888

@GoodAfternoonSir I’ll dm you!

what is the admit rate for pre-public policy at ucla? is it probably higher since its not a stem major lol?

@Ohm888 Is what @omojimin said about only being accepted to one or the other (UCLA or Berkeley) true?

no thats def full bs lmaoo, a college decision from one UC does not affect another UC’s decision. Berkeley and UCLA are competing to get the best transfer students, if you were accepted at berkeley that does not mean you are guaranteed to ucla but its a good sign you might be

Got wait-listed at Berkeley, kind of looking for reassurance that I might still have a chance at UCLA? :frowning:

@slimreaper Public policy is a newer major through Luskin so the admission stats are not available, unfortunately. You can find stats for other majors here: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

Oh man that post kinda scared me now. I got into UCB but now I’m worried that UCLA won’t accept me because UCB already did? Do a lot of people who get into UCB also get into UCLA? Or is it really just one or the other if they communicate?
