@the444 are you sure they are not freshmen students? i did see someone saying jk they got into cal state la not ucla
@GoodAfternoonSir welcome back buddy!
@jjang25 I agree. I also saw that post. Either freshman or just attention horses!
Hey guys!
Im new to this transfer thread and college confidential. Ive been trying to avoid anything related to UCLA in general right now because I dont want to get my hopes up. However, I was wondering if someone could “chance” me. I know it may be useless cause decisions lie in admissions but Ive been way to nervous this week and would like to join the thread.
Major: Environmental Science
GPA: 3.93
Major Reqs: Done.
IGETC: no/almost (ive talked to 4 different counselors in the past year and a admissions rep from ucla and they all said I didnt need it and to just focus on general reqs and major requirements!)
General Reqs: Done
EC’s: Work in conservation and rehabilitation of seals and sea lions 8 hours a week, volunteered at a animal shelter, PTK, feminist club, womens rugby.
Personal insights: i believe 3/4 are decent/good.
Really hoping I have a chance!
Good luck to everyone this coming week!
@jjang25 yeah I’m sure, if you go under the “latest” tabs and keep scrolling until around the 19th she tweets “hi twitter i got into Davis, Berkeley, and UCLA” so idk if she heard from UCLA that same day that Cal and Davis admissions came out or what
What happens if you get into a UC but fail your math class that’s required to transfer? Cause I’m literally on that route help
I think igetc needs to be complete to transfer to a uc especially if it’s a math class you need to take
i just dm’d her being polite and asking if its true she got into UCLA as a transfer (it probs isnt)
@UniCoIn No it does not. it is required for certain majors (i think) but many stem majors do not need to complete it and in fact for a lot of UC’s they prefer you to focus on major requirements first. Plus if four different counselors are telling me the same thing on top of a ucla admission rep, I dont think I need it. but I see your point. We will see.
From uc website:
Which type of student should not (follow igetc)
"Certain students, however, will not be well served by following IGETC. Students who intend to transfer into majors that require extensive lower-division preparation, such as engineering or the physical and natural sciences, should concentrate on completing the prerequisites for the major required by the individual UC campus. "
Ive been told it isnt necessary for my major however it would be good to have… its the only thing im worried for right now haha but hopefully im okay.
also (from uc):
Not a requirement, but a consideration
“IGETC is not an admission requirement. Completing it does not guarantee admission to the campus or program of choice. However, completing the lower-division breadth/general education requirements — whether through IGETC or the campus-specific requirements — may be considered by the campus in selecting among qualified applicants.”
I’m a WAC major (arts and architecture dept.) So, if I completed all IGETC except for math do you think there’s a possibility it’d be ok? Cause I’m actually like having a panic attack I won’t pass math
Also this doesn’t really mean anything but I got invited (and went to) the arts open house
@chlotaylor do you have the lower division breadth/general ed reqs done?
this is uclas gen reqs:
Academic Criteria
Completion of the following course requirements by spring prior to transfer:
Two transferable courses in English composition/critical thinking and writing.
One transferable math course that has a prerequisite of intermediate algebra or higher.
Four transferable college courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences.
You definitely need to have one math class done, do you think you can pull a C?
good luck!!!
@chlotaylor Contact admissions ASAP about this situation, the sooner you notify them, the more likely they can help you out. There’s no point in waiting for the inevitable to happen, let the admissions department help you out. Also, you should speak with your teacher and negotiate a deal. Perhaps he/she can offer extra credit, give you an incomplete and you could finish the class before July 1st (The deadline for submitting official transcripts), etc.
Being proactive will help you a bunch, don’t waste your time.
@GoodAfternoonSir thank you so much! My final is on May 16th so we’ll see
@megprit I have all GE done except the math requirement which I’m doing rn but will maybe fail
@chlotaylor I agree with @GoodAfternoonSir , definitely do everything you can and talk to your professor. I hope everything works out for you!
@megprit @GoodAfternoonSir ok I sound so stupid but what should I say to the teacher? I don’t want to be annoying
What grade do you have and what grade do you want?
I personally always use emotion and desperation to convince people lol. That’s how I was able to convince my counselor and admission supervisor to authorize me to take 29 units this semester despite college policy limits in my district as 24 haha.
Showcasing extenuating circumstances are excellent, but you gotta brainstorm and decide what’s the best circumstance you can come up with that is also BELIEVABLE.
Good luck!
@chlotaylor I dont know your professor but if i were in your position right now, I would tell my professor that I have spent a lot of money/ hard work/time on these UC applications. I would say that it is absolutely necessary to pass this course for admissions. Ask him/her if there is absolutely anything you can do to help your grade. if your school has free tutor sessions, go to them. If there is any extra credit opportunities, do it. if you are doing well in all your classes right now, you should focus the most on math to ensure you can pass.
if you have a chill professor, Im sure they will help you out!
Do whatever it takes babe, especially if you get in, do whatever :naughty:
