UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@ashlii nope. My friend who was accepted finished her major prep classes in spring and so did I. In the application it notes that students should be done with the major prep classes by spring of whatever year you submit your application in your case spring 2019.

Oh ok! thanks for responding! Also, do you know if you have to finish the other classes that are recommended but not required as well? I will have all the math sequence thats required done by spring but not the other physics, chem and computer classes. I’m not sure if they only look at the math sequence or they look at the other classes that are recommended as well for all majors under the math dept. since I was told 2 different things. Appreciate the response from anyone who has info on this!

@Skyc98

Any Aerospace engineer majors who transferred? I want to transfer to UCLA, but am worried that I don’t have the extra curriculars to stand out. The only one I have is work, but hopefully I’m able to get an internship by the end of the year and that I keep my grades up. I’m at my first semester at a CC, and would really like to view some profiles to get an idea of what I should build my application like.

@ashlii hi in my case I was a biology major. I finished my required classes but not the recommended physics series. I attempted it but not completed it. This will not hinder your application bc the recommendations can be fulfilled at UCLA. In my case since I did not do the recommended physics series I am completing them here. Many of the other students I met at orientation also did the required but not the recommended. Hope this helps.

I’m applying to other schools for just computer science but I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to finish the entire recommended physics series does anyone know how much of a deal breaker that will be? I really like linguistics so I’m hoping that I get into UCLA so I can do both my passions in one major. Good luck to us all!!

Oh I was also wondering how I should write the first essay prompt since I’m applying for Ling & Comp Sci at UCLA but different majors at UCI and UCR (comp sci). Anyone have experience with this?

Just talk about computer science with an interest in its connection to linguistics.

Hey guys, is anyone doing their drafts for their personal statements so far? How many drafts do you plan on doing? I’m working on my third draft since I’m having a few people review my second one.

@halpmehxd Heyo I’m also a psych major! :smiley: And an English tutor as well. Your stats are great and you met the average GPA admitted for psych majors. TAP gives you a definite boost :slight_smile:

I posted my stats earlier, but I was concerned about my GPA. I have gotten all A’s in all my classes and I have a 4.0 GPA for major courses (sociology). I am taking prerequisites for PA school and unfortunately received C’s in my 2 chemistry classes. Do you think or know if admission officers look at the courses taken and will see that because I took some harder science courses, my GPA is not as high as it could be or maybe as other people who did not taken any sciences? What do you guys think?

@HarleyTheQuinn I’m working on my second drafts right now, but they’re still pretty up in the air. How has your feedback been? It’s been hard for me to write them.

@pshms7888 My feed back has been decent so far. For the first draft I did it in the summer since I was in UCLA’s SITE PLUS program, so our mentors made us do our first draft and then they reviewed it. For the second, they wanted us to have it reviewed by people we know. It’s been kind of difficult since I did reach out to some of my old mentors from other programs and I haven’t heard from them yet. I did get pretty good feedback from this UCLA mentor at a personal statement workshop I attended last Saturday. But yeah it is also hard for me to write them, specially for another draft haha

Do not stress out too much on your essays.
Try to remember your academic readiness is most important on your application.

@mpmp11
College admission is a total mystery.
There are always rumors about what they look at.

Some colleges look at just GPA, some colleges look at the details of the classes you took, who knows.

Also some students are good at Science some students are good at Math etc…
Just because you think Chemistry are hard does not mean the college admissions think Chemistry is harder than other classes(my son who is in college is very good at Math, but terrible at Biology, but generally speaking a regular Biology is considered easier than AP Cal in high school).

You cannot change what you got. There will be a college which is willing to accept you as their student.

My son mentioned above got waitlisted by four colleges out of six he applied this spring and eventually got an acceptance by one.

He is really enjoying the opportunity he got and appreciates their offer.

I however totally understand your worry as I have another son who is trying to transfer next year( he is working on his application now).

Good luck!

Hope this helps someone.

Hey guys, I have a question! I’m going to be applying to transfer to UCLA from a CCC. If I don’t have 1 or 2 classes on the IGETC plan, would I be flat out rejected, or could they still accept me and then just allow those classes to be taken at UCLA? For instance, if I’m missing a math or a science with a lab, would that lower my chances? I’m just not sure if the IGETC is an absolute requirement, or more of a suggestion. Thanks in advance :slight_smile:

Does it matter if I want to apply financial aid? Will they reject me because of financial aid?
