UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

probably unlikely but i wonder if ucla apartments allow pets? i currently have a dog that i don’t have anyone to help look after while i attend ucla. anyone else in the same boat?

@yourmomdude Your GPA is low for your major according to: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
TAP is still a pretty big boost, but it’s not too unreasonable to think that the 10-20% of TAP that isn’t getting accepted is probably the profiles like yours, low GPAs in impacted majors.

@jjang25 just found this on their website. I think they don’t :frowning:

@GaussX bro what ?? if i’m not mistaken you cant even dorm with a person of opposite gender on campus

@yourmomdude your GPA might not be in the average range, but our opinions don’t really matter, so don’t really take seriously what anyone says as we have no say in whether you get in or not. These days college admissions are a total crap shoot and you literally cant expect anything even if you have the greatest stats in recorded history!! You’ll do great wherever you decide to attend :slight_smile:

@yourmomdude i swear my chihuahua/beagle is a “service animal!”…lol thanks for the link now i know for sure :’(

@8CLAP4SUP haha really? I have no idea how dorms work in the U.S :sweat_smile:

@gokingsgo1999 aww haha you’re so precious thank you!! :slight_smile: thank you for the motivation, i need it

I know they’re annoying, but thought I might as well join the thread and see what y’all think about my chances! I also applied to UCSD so if anyone applied there as well, feel free to chance me for that too :wink:

Aaannnddd that’s all I can think of for now lol. The transfer process has taken over my life and I’m always stalking this thread now so I decided it was about time I made an account and start chatting.

@offwhiteazy this is one where probably nobody can give you a reasonable answer. 94% of UCLA transfers came from community colleges last year, and CSU applicants have around a 9% acceptance rate: http://www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof18.htm Then again, your application certainly has to be in the top 10%, if not higher. I’m just wondering if your kind of applicant is in danger of randomly getting bumped off to make space, especially since you’re applying to impacted majors, and because you’re already “in” college after all and therefore lower priority.

@offwhiteazy @TheMaSharng

I don’t know if I would consider UCLA FAM as impacted. You have a decent shot.

@TheMaSharng That makes sense, I didn’t even consider Mathematics as an impacted major, but that’s good to know! And would mine really be top 10% or higher ? I feel like I’ve seen other people’s stats look WAYYY nicer, but thank you!! I’m also really bummed transfers aren’t valued as highly as other applicants, I could argue we work a little harder than High school seniors for a spot :wink:

@bruins8clap It is officially impacted, and its GPA interquartile range for accepted students is just as severe, 3.87-4.00, as even the dreaded business econ, 3.88-4.00.

@offwhiteazy Math isn’t impacted, but financial actuarial math and mathematics/economics is impacted.

Wow, it’s getting intense. I mean luckily my GPA falls well within the range but trying to stand out in a pool of thousands of students is ROUGH lol

@TheMaSharng

Interesting.
Most likely because they do not have a lot of actuary classes per quarter. Whereas for math major, they have 5-6 real analysis, and linear algebra classes per quarter.

@bruins8clap

Just glancing at the major requirements, Mathematics/Economics takes real analysis and linear algebra, https://www.math.ucla.edu/ugrad/majors/mathecon Math 131A + B is real analysis
Financial Actuarial Math also takes real analysis and linear algebra: https://www.math.ucla.edu/ugrad/majors/fam

Interesting, thanks for the info!! I know this isn’t the thread for USD, buttttttt Anyone apply to USD too by any chance ?

@TheMaSharng

yes…but look at the actuary specific courses. Math 178A/B, Math 172, 173… there is only like 2 courses of each class offered per quarter.

@TheMaSharng

Moreover,

the Financial actuarial math lecturers (who were actuaries) were all replaced with professors on track for tenure, which weakened the program a lot.
