@GoodAfternoonSir I can’t speak about the UCLA Greek life experience (obv) but being a sober brother gets old real quick haha
Im the hero UCLA needs but not the one it deserves. But remember this, im not a hero, im a silent guardian, a watchful protector, the brown knight
@offwhiteazy @GoodAfternoonSir It was so insane to hear about. I kept telling my friend she needed to report it but she was too scared of having her name associated the report. I suggested she write an anonymous email but I’m not sure if she ever did. She also said she didn’t think UCLA could really do anything about it because it wasn’t school-run or sanctioned. I don’t know the name of the sorority but I believe it was all-Asian.
@Justkeem I can’t say that there isn’t any hazing in the official ones. I imagine there is a certain degree of hazing, but I know that the school keeps a very watchful eye on them and they are monitored closely for dangerous activities. There have been so many reports of hazing deaths, schools are very vigilant nowadays. But like others have said, your best bet is a professional frat/sorority vs a social one.
@willowstil I wonder why people enjoy humiliating other people. Can’t we all just be friends and have a good time together? I don’t see the point of being disrespectful to other people.
My peer mentor at ucla said her sorority hazed them by making them go in the underground tunnels at ucla which the school bans
anybody else reading ucla fall 2018 transfer thread!? looks like in the past they’ve released decision at 5pm. 2018 happened on april 25th and reading students losing their minds is pretty entertaining lmao
yup. hopefully thats us in a week lol.
@jjang25 the admission rep during the campus tour said that they would only announce decisions at 5pm or after to avoid distracting applicants from school/work by checking their emails/portals every single time
@adreezybones hope it’s on a tuesday or thursday cause i dont have school on those days
Frats are bad! There’s not really any evidence that fraternities or sororities help you professionally, and you also usually suffer a grade penalty: https://ideas.repec.org/p/iza/izadps/dp11841.html
I don’t get what the point is at all over joining a club.
@TheMaSharng I would respectfully disagree. I’ve seen so many connections and networks made through fraternities and sororities. My best friend’s sorority alone does resume days where they get professionals in to look over their resumes and LinkedIn profiles to help them professionally. Recently, they even did a photoshoot so they could get professional headshots for their profiles.
@offwhiteazy Well, your examples are anecdotal. The empirical evidence shows a drop in GPA, followed by no sign of a salary premium in professional life, which is really what the aim is after all when they say that they help you professionally.
@adreezybones hahah well them not telling us a date is ruining our lives and distracting us anyways
I have class on wednesdays til 5:30 so I will have to sit in class suffering.
Guys, I just wanna say that while fraternities and sororities can be fun, just be careful of which one you’d like to join in. It’s good to do some research on them, what they do, what their chapter is about, ask people who are in it and if they haze, etc. One of my best friends that goes to UCLA said that there are some frats/sororities that have judgmental people, but there are good ones (multicultural, academic etc). Joining pne is great for networking, but don’t always rely on people with a high power in chapters. Just a thing I wanted to tell y’all. Just be safe
A UCLA admissions officer emailed me back today and they told me this:
we do not have an exact date yet. Students can look forward to hearing from us sometime within the last two weeks of this month.
I wonder why they don’t have an exact date yet
I get the impression that they were trying to be before Berkeley. But the number of applications is just overwhelming, so they don’t want to say one date and not be able to commit to it.
I feel like it is going to be after Berkeley
Same here
