UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@mpineda3247 I see. That’s quite disappointing to hear. I have seen a decent amount of people gain acceptance to Linguistics and Computer Science, but they are typically not very explicit with their course load. I have seen some state that they did not complete the major preparation and were accepted, but I have no idea if their language requirement was incomplete. Thank you for the response.

@Princetonian9 I’m pretty sure that’s what it means. But I thought most language for majors can be completed after you transfer.

Nvm, I see what you wrote. I would contact UCLA RIGHT AWAY and say the UCLA rep said you were cool - three years hs. Now you’re not sure. They might give you a break. You are close after all. Or maybe they’ll say three years = 2 years college.

@Princetonian9 I don’t think high school courses count. I think they want at least one year done at a college. But I would talk to another advisor. I think the UCLA rep. was wrong.

I am a native spanish speaker, but my CC doesn’t offer a native speakers course so I skipped to Intermediate I and II. I only took one year. Both classes were 5 credits. So I am hoping that might give me some bonus points considering that UCLA Intermediate is 4 credits. I only have one year and not the recommended 2 years. I mentioned in my application that my household speaks spanish and english. Do you guys think that they will still consider me as a spanish major/ alternate linguistics+spanish with 3.8 GPA?
My CC doesn’t offer any courses like “advanced composition” or “spanish literature”. So I have taken the mariachi class for 3 semesters and an intro to chicano studies. So I hope that helps

@lcsucla I agree, previous posters havent been very clear, and ucla isnt very clear about it either. Nothing is on assist for it and the site has very vague reqs. I think when past posters talk about the major, they are really talking about the extra CS-centric prereqs. These extra pre reqs include an intro course to linguistics as well, but a majority of california CCs dont offer a transferrable linguistics, so as such they dont mandate it.

Maybe we don’t have a date because they had too many fake athletes they planned on accepting?

@gokingsgo1999 honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. This year has just been a mess with just admissions in general with all the fakessssss. It’s safe to say we can blame them for holding our admissions back :slight_smile: Or it’s also safe to say thanks to them for possibly giving us their admission spots…

@Princetonian9 but wait, you have 3 years of hs French. That covers one year of of college French. You’re fine. You were talking about doing more and asking if those three years equaled two college years.

@Ohm888 Yea, basically. They said one year of hs lang to be considered, then for extra it says a second year of the lang, so i thought the other 2 years would mean something.

How do they know if we took language courses in high school when they look at our application?

You list it or mention it. Or you have Ap or IB tests. Then when you’re accepted I think you gotta send them a high school transcript? Wait i dont remember, cause i got into ucsd last year but idk if i sent them my high school one.

i tried calling the admission advising office right now but their telephone hours are closed until 1pm. I’ll give them a call and see what they say about high school courses counting as college level. I’ll get back to you guys later.

Oof I stated that I would finish IGETC by Spring but on my app I didn’t put down that I took Spanish for two years in high school or that I had one year of instruction in Spain (all in Spanish)… I’m a sociology major so it’s not a prereq, but will this cause issues for the IGETC/my acceptance? Or is that something I can just verify when they ask for official transcripts?

@willowstil

Who knows. At this point in time you’re either accepted or denied from UCLA.

@bruins8clap Lol dude I think you need to chill out a bit. You don’t know everything about admissions. This person is just asking a question seeking an answer and your input didn’t accomplish anything.

@Randapanda126 Yasss let us know. Also ask if an ap score contributes anything!

@alscott

What…? I literally emailed UCLA admissions office 4 days ago to try to update a course and they told me it’s irrelevant at this point and that accepted applicants can email UCLA admissions after decision date for classes and information regarding condition of admission.

@willowstil Your IGETC has to be certified by your community college so it’s not UCLA veryfing that you took your language courses but your CC so I think you should be fine.

@bruins8clap Haha ok but just letting you know that your post history comes across as super pretentious and a lot of your replies are kinda rude and unhelpful. Idk if that’s your intention or not but I’m just sayin it might be good to take it down a notch or at least be nicer lol

@HeyItsNick @willowstil My CC counselor told me the same thing regarding IGETC; I too took all my foreign language in H.S. and had to send my H.S. transcripts to my college solely for IGETC certification purposes.

@HeyItsNick @holatomm Thank you so much!
