@PokeBear I applied as a Biochemistry major. I am not sure about bio/anatomy/biochemistry requirements for med schools. That requirement will be school specific. I heard taking the anatomy at cc is much better than taking it at a 4-year. So far I am done with bio, chem, and math, but haven’t finished the physics. Same here, too scared to go to UCB and didn’t apply there.
@ucdochopeful2k19 You had actually planned well. However, I also first try to choose a major that doesn’t require physics, then I change it as I found calculus to be much easier. UCSD is good and competitive, but I would be worried about my GPA in there. Although, I heard good things about UCLA for pre-med.
@surefineitsok That’s good, I’m just debating between UCI, UCD, UCR and UCLA (if I get accepted). So far I had talked to my professors, they all told me to go to a school that you can maintain a good GPA while also having the ability to maintain EC’s. However, you know how the family works that they want you to go to a school with a good name even though they don’t want to pressure you. I personally don’t like the quarter system -_- Lucky for me, biochem and genetics are covered by my major(biochemistry), so yeah I wouldn’t have to take them. But I was thinking of taking my MCAT exam during my last months of the 3rd year.
To all my pre-med homies, I just want to say good luck and please please take care of your mental health and stress levels even before you get to med school. The majority of my brother’s classmates and colleagues developed mental health struggles along the way, and he lost two classmates and a fellow resident. I don’t mean to be a bummer, just want y’all to take care of yourselves starting asap cause yous important n stuff
This is kinda off topic but Has anyone pre med considered doing post bac or getting a masters in something to raise your gpa? Cause I gotta be honest I have two C’s in some core med school required classes. (Also a lot of B’s lmao since my cc doesnt curve) One C in second semester gen chemistry and another C in one semester of biology.
I haven’t really made a dent into math since I put it off, same for physics. but I’ve heard they evaluate your math and science gpa separately.
My tutor told me a girl he had tutored (he’s also an mcat tutor btw) she didn’t get into med school but got her MPH and applied to med school again later on. I guess she did that as a way to raise her gpa
If y’all have questions about premed/med school/residency my bro loves to give advice lol, hmu
@surefineitsok My brother’s gf didn’t get in anywhere the first time around, did two years post-bac at SF State, got in a few places second time around
@adreezybones I feel that I feel like right now time is going fast for me tbh. I haven’t had the best time this past year either so I’ve just been looking forward to leaving my cc and getting a fresh start somewhere haha
@willowstil thanks for the tip! I gotta be honest I’m still premed but due to personal reasons and financial reasons I have been looking into other things (like BME or engineering) so i think by the time I transfer I’ll probably make a clear decision about post bac but I appreciate the advice
@AeroDE My top choices are UCLA or UCSD. I’m majoring in Psych so taking the pre-req’s for med school won’t be as bad. I’ve already finished 1 year of chem and bio. I’m just worried about Physics the Calculus courses that come with it at this point.
@surefineitsok yeah dude, I can’t believe we’re actually in “mid-April” already. It feels like yesterday when everybody in this forum was getting impatient for “mid-April” to come.
@ishitak thats nice. Same here, I finished the calc I and II, that was easy for me but I haven’t finished the physics which I am worried about. Most of my friends from high school and cc are at UCSD and I will be able to commute from my home to UCSD which will be a plus for me. So far my top choices would be UCI, UCLA, UCD.
@adreezybones Can’t believe its 2-3 more days. ITS ALREADY April 15 ?
we should have a count down clock XD
Everybody is so positive and supportive tonight <3 I’m livin’ for this. Sending everyone good vibes and the best of luck!
