UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

But they always / have to say that.

Getting invited to apply to the scholarship used to mean something, right? Maybe they sent it to everyone this time around. Example, does your guys GPA meet the requirements? If not, did you still get the email?

When I applied to UCLA last year I didn’t receive the scholarship email but I also didn’t get accepted ( everyone else accepted me but UCLA lol) I reapplied this year and received the scholarship email soooo idk. I honestly don’t think it means anything tho.

I don’t think anyone should use the scholarship email for any type of indication of acceptance (or rejection). For example, when you first apply to UCI, you are able to apply for a multitude of scholarships. This opportunity then closes early February, showing that you can apply for scholarships as a UC applicant, regardless of potential acceptance or not. I think that they maybe just sent out the email for applicants with 3.7 or higher transfer GPAs.

Maybe @Gumbymom knows the answer to the Alumni Transfer Scholarship question, and if getting invited to apply for it says anything about acceptance.

@“jesse’sgirl”

According to the UCLA Forum Champion 10s4life, there is a 60% acceptance correlation for invitees however, that is based on the last few years and it may be for Freshman applicants only. On the Freshman discussion thread, another poster has noted that more applicants have been invited to apply so the acceptance rate/correlation will probably be much less.

I do not know if any of this information is different for transfers. Hopefully a transfer student from last year that won the scholarship would be able to give better input.

The alumni scholarships are run out of a different office from admissions and they base it on ECs and GPA on the application. And yes, sometimes you are not accepted. It’s rare but it happens.

This used to be the case, as well, with UCLA Regents scholarship when they would send out finalist emails before admission acceptances were sent out. Since the campus now appears to be handling it after acceptance, I assume this is no longer the case

Did anyone not receive the email?

I did not, so I’m a little sad.

I also received the email inviting me to apply for the Alumni Scholars Club- I’m including this because it’s such a hot topic on this thread but I honestly don’t think it means anything. I am applying for it though.
Good luck everyone!! We got this

That’s interesting…I’m a chemical engineering major applicant from UC Davis with a GPA of 4.0/4.0, but I didn’t get the email.

Quick question tho, might sound stupid, but I’m considering dropping a college alegbra course, it’s prereq for UCR, in conjunction with trig, it fulfills the calc requirement. Will this hurt my chances if I drop it now?

Just got emailed again about the Alumni Scholarship and they have removed the GPA and credit requirement!

LOL the email didn’t imply any acceptance of admission. I took it as “If you get admitted, you’ll get the scholarship.”

Why do you guys think they removed the two requirements?

Plus, does the scholarship office have access to our uc app? I’m wondering if PIQS can be used for the alumni scholarship essays

Hey, @AsukaLangley , just curious…why seeking to transfer out of UCD to UCLA? My son is a ChE major, and has applied to both. TAG’d Davis, and so is already (essentially) admitted there. Please share anything you think others should know about the ChE program at UCD.

I think the scholarship office and the admission office are separate. Even if they weren’t, I looked at their questions and you wouldn’t be able to use your personal statements because they’re just way too random.
