UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

I got technical issues so I could not. But they may think that I did not report due to Not doing so well.

ACCEPTED!

Stats:
Major: Pre-Pols Sci
4.0 GPA overall
No TAP
Finished IGETC
First Year CCC Transfer
Applied: UCSB and UCLA
Accepted: both
Now I just need to decide between the two…

They did say the number in the rejection letters lol

hey guys!! so i have over 90 units and have completed all of IGETC and my major prep during winter quarter!! for spring quarter, I enrolled in three classes, which were major prep for Berkeley. but since i’d rather go to la, is it okay if I drop these classes and take nothing for this quarter?? I would not receive any W’s or anything like that so there would not be anything on my transcript. would this cause me to be rescinded??

That’s a question only UCLA Admissions can answer definitively. There are usually conditions in your acceptance offer so I would email admissions since they are the ones who would be rescinding you.

PS… how are you able to not get W’s at this point in the semester? That is a sweet deal you got. The best my school offers is an EW (Excused Withdrawal) if I dropped anything. I would love to get a blank transcript anytime I withdrew. Hahaaaa

Congratulations on your acceptance!

thank you soo much!! actually my school is quarter system, and the last date to drop without W’s is this Sunday LOL

“Maintain the grade point average and complete the courses and number of units as reported in your application and in any subsequent course updates.”

This is the first line in the admission contract, so presumably you would need their permission to drop courses safely. It does go on to state, however, “Notify our office immediately of any withdrawals,” so it’s likely allowed to some degree.

The number of acceptances? Or just the number of applications? I haven’t had the opportunity of seeing any rejection letters so I don’t know what they actually look like.

What type of technical issue did you get that caused only 1 semester to not get reported?

My application could only be submitted in its entirety. It was an all -or- nothing & I couldn’t submit certain semesters but not others.

Waitlisted which is honestly surprising lmao!

Major: Anthropology (B.S.)
GPA: 3.4
IGETC: completed
Major prep: completed, but did not take all of the “recommended courses.”
ECs: meh, tutoring, being a classroom aid, piano performance??
accepted: UCSC, UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCSD
rejected: Berkeley (obviously lol)
waitlisted: UCLA
Congrats to everyone who got in!

Hey everyone! After doing some further research, I’m getting mixed answers about a quesrion I had earlier in regards to my friend’s application. She has a strong GPA, all requirements met, major courses done, just basically finishing up at her CC.

It turns out that she is missing the language requirement from her IGETC and stated on her UC app that she will have IGETC done by the time of transfer.

UCLA requests for the IGETC certification on September 1, 2020 which is months from now.

Does UCLA allow for people to finish up an IGETC related course like a foreign language in the summer prior to transfer to fulfill that requirement? I guess IGETC isn’t required in letters and sciences, but since she put yes on the app, I’m sure she has to finish it.

I know that UCLA states that you cannot take any classes in the summer prior to transfer to contribute to the required unit count, but it says nothing about IGETC.

I’ve been reading thread after thread with different ways of this question being asked with my friend and she is just entirely lost as of now. If any experienced person who has heard of/been in a similar experience can weigh in, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Sorry if my advice comes across as unhelpful but the best thing she can do right now is contact UCLA Admissions and get their opinion on the matter. With Covid-19 stuff going on right now, they should let her.

To add onto that, she has already been admitted. Just following up on that IGETC part. Thanks again everyone!

CONGRATS! Do you mind sharing your stats and ECs?

Should I write the appeal letter for waitlist or just input my fall and spring semester?

I was in the same situation last year because I dropped one course to fulfill IGETC after knowing that UCI (the school I wanted to attend) does not need it and SIRed to UCI.

I contacted the UCLA admission and they said it was recommended only (by meeting 2 Admission Staffs at UCLA in person). But I did not want to retake many GE classes at UCLA, so I requested officially through MyPortal -Admission offer - website to let me finish it during summer 2019. And yes, I took only 1 online class in summer 2019 to fulfill the IGETC, turned in the final paper few days early, went to my CCC office to request that my Transcript would be send after my grade was posted, then flied oversea on July 17th. Came back to the US on Sep 5 to move in UCLA apartment and enjoyed the campus before Fall Quarter started.

So, your friend can take that course in Summer, but your friend should contact the Admission to let them know that.

That is why I could not post the term many years ago.

If your friend is short on IGETC they need to contact the individual school’s admissions office. Each school has the power to waive or require criteria. Some of the UC’s don’t care as much and some are more rigid. Its tough during COVID because you can’t reach anyone by phone, but your friend should email ASAP admissions at all accepted schools of interest. There will likely in some cases be a formal process where he/she will need to submit a formal request for a change in conditions. In that, they can explain the circumstances. causing the deficiency and hopefully either get a waiver or be allowed to make the class up in the summer or after enrollment

gotcha. haven’t seen where its said 3500 accepted anywhere my bad

Forgot to post last night because I was in shock ?

I am a returning, non-traditional student. I did poorly in 2010-2012 and returned in 2017. I’ve gotten a 4.0 every semester since then. So while my GPA seems lower, I think they really took my history into consideration. I say all this to show that there’s hope for any of your future readers who haven’t had the straightest path to get here!
