MAJOR: Sociology
UC GPA: 4.0
MAJOR GPA: 4.0
Major Prep: Finished
IGETC: Done by end of Summer session this quarter
EXTRA.: Tutor, Honors Program/Club, Scholar Program, Volunteer at Homeless Shelter, and other hours/clubs/awards from high school (though I don’t think I will mention this in my app).
Hi I am transfering from UCSD, I was expecting to facilitate my application with a strong winter grade (major preps and high GPA). But people are saying that UCB and UCLA only consider the fall grade prior to application. Is that true? I’m worried right now…
@brookkk: After applying in the Fall, you will use the TAU (Transfer Update Application) to update your Fall grades and if your Winter grades are available by end of January, then you could also update those courses and grades. Not all transfers will have a Winter session/quarter so admissions may only use your Fall grades to update your GPA? @Ohm888
omg i think i might do poorly in my poli sci class this summer. is it bad if i drop it and get a W? it’s a major class, but i’ve completed the other major classes besides this. how badly do W’s look on transcipts?
Hi all,
Feels great to finally be posting after lurking for the past year or so. These coming months will surly tough! I will be transferring from a CCC and I’ve included my stats below.
GPA: 4.0 / 4.0
IGETC & Major Prep: Will be completed by Spring 2020
ECs: Honors Program (also TAP Certified), SI Leader at CC, Marketing internship, 2019 summer intern for a solar panel company, library volunteer.
Intended Major: Biz Econ
Major: Computer Engineering
GPA: 3.91
IGETC: Completed by Fall 2019
Major Prep: 6/10 completed by Fall 2019, Kinda worried about what they think of me doing 4 major preps in the Spring.
EC: Phi Theta Kappa Volunteering
I think I have a good chance, but my weakness is having four major classes left after the TAU.
Hey ste1111, I’m also applying as a history major. I’m currently taking a major prep course for summer session and fall semester I will be finished with igetc and my final history class. I will have three in total which is essentially all that is required. I believe that Berkeley and Santa Barbara are two of the schools that require more.
I’ve been lurking on these threads for the past 2 years… it’s finally my time to apply!
From a CCC
GPA: 3.6 but has been in an upward trend since I started college
Major: PS / backup major: Soc
Extracurriculars: Not much here but I have been working since 2017 and have had an insane amount of family responsibilities which I will talk about in my application
All of these 4.0 GPAs are intimidating but UCLA looks at more than just good grades so I’m hopeful that I have a shot…
Hey what’s up, I don’t know yet because I can TAG due to my GPA. I think I’m only applying to UCLA and Irvine for History and Berkeley and Santa Barbara for Sociology since I have the prereqs done. I’m also conflicted on what to major in but at the end of the day, school is what you make of it. If you’re driven like myself you can make wine from water. I’ve struggled too much in life to give up. History is pretty dope and I find it fascinating. I’ve always had law school within the back of my mind or maybe work for a couple of years and get an MBA. Either way for grad school getting into an Ivy League from UCLA or another UC is feasible.
To all the History majors applying to UCLA, as a graduate from UCLA with a degree in history and a former transfer, I have to say anything 3.7 and up will get you in. I’ve seen 3.5 as well but my numbers(GPA) in 2014 was 3.8+ and I got in. The average over the last few years has been around 3.7ish. So, make sure you have finished all your course work, dotted your I’s and crossed your t’s but also write a strong essay.
UCLA has a world-class history department, some amazing professors and you will learn a great deal. When your results come in and when and if you are accepted feel free to ask me any questions, I will give you tips on the professors you should be taking and the ones you may want to avoid.
I too have been lurking on these threads for schools for a while now and am thinking of applying.
From: An out of state 4-year college (WSU)
GPA: 3.63 cumulative (probably higher with only UC transferable grades for my UC gpa)
Major: I want to apply as a business major haven’t looked into what is offered yet, but I am hoping they have business finance. Another side note here, I just switched to business so at the time I apply, I’m only going to have half of my pre-reqs done at my current school (also not sure what UCs need for business ore reqs)
ECs: I honestly don’t have a lot here, I was a member of my colleges tennis club freshman year, member of a student run TV show (worked as a social media manager and wrote scripts for a bit on the show), and that’s about it. I’m gonna see if I can improve this section this coming semester.
Idk what my chances are tbh, it may not even be affordable for me because I don’t think I’d get much aid from a UC for those stats. What do you guys think? Also good luck to all other applicants!
Haven’t uploaded my stats yet,
GPA: 3.91
MAJOR: History
TAP: YES, will be done Spring 2020!
EC: Honors Program, Honors Club, community service, and possible tutor for fall 2019.
Bonjour
I do not think I feel anxious at all. Just the normal. I do feel a bit confident about my personal insight questions and grade point average. UCLA is my dream university. I believe I am not too anxious is because my major is not a selective major. I have checked admittance statistics for previous years and looks like I am in good standing, but again I should not expect anything and not get my hopes up. Even if I do get accepted, there will be problems I will have to face such as affording a dorm(transfers only get 1 year) and looking for a flat the second year. sigh But it is an exciting time form transfers.
