I hope everyone is hanging in there as we await our admissions decisions. I figured I’d also make a post as I’m waiting for mine. My stats are as follows:
GPA: 3.87
Credits: fulfilled required 60 semester units before applying to transfer (IGETC)
Major: Sociology (alternate major: Political Science)
Work experience: on-campus English tutor at local community college (3 semesters)
Extracurriculars:
Political Science Club (President)
Volunteer at local medical outreach clinic
Admitted:
SJSU
Cal Poly Pomona
UC Santa Cruz
Waitlisted:
Cal Poly SLO
Denied:
San Diego State
I think I’m mainly worried that my application will not be considered competitive enough because I didn’t take part in enough extracurriculars or outside activities, as I mainly focused on academics. Even academics-wise, I did get 2 B’s (and I got another B this semester after I applied to transfer). I know UCLA focuses quite a bit on students who branched out and were involved in other activities outside of school. Chance me?
@Ohm888 I mean nearly any major can do pre-law but a family friend did Cog Sci at a top school and completed law school recently. This is one anecdote and I don’t have much knowledge on the law job market but he was describing to me how Lawyers who have technical knowledge which includes reading and understanding code are getting hired more and getting more compensation compared to most other lawyers the same age or experience level. For example, he was explaining a case in patent law where he could describe code in simple terms could help show patent infringement. To me, it makes logical sense but then again I have very little knowledge of the law job market.
What was six months became a few weeks and I’m incredibly nervous, so if anyone can look at my application and tell me what my chances are that’d be great.
Major: Poli Sci
GPA: 3.66 as of now, will be 3.7+ after this spring, which I indicated on my additional notes with the TAU
IGETC done after this spring with 60 units and major GPA is 4.0
Essays: pretty solid, had plenty of people edit them, wrote about how politics gave me purpose as a first generation middle eastern immigrant (moved here in 2010), and how I turned my hardships into motivation.
ECs: interned for a house campaign, worked for a city council campaign, and organized for a presidential campaign. Currently work as a Registered behavior technician, a position that I earned with Hard work. Was also a part of a few clubs.
Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCR, UCSD, UCSB
Accepted: UCR with honors
Waiting:the rest of them
I’d really appreciate honest feedback, good luck to all!
Hey guys I need some help. I mixed up the course number with the course registration number when entering the academic history.
For example, I wrote “MATH 78587 Vector Analysis - MAT 021D - 001”
but the correct one should be “MAT 021D Vector Analysis”
Although I’ve added a comment in the TAU to explain this and sent the admission office my official transcript in January, I’m still wondering whether this mistake will confuse them and therefore influence my admission. Any ideas?
I’ll also post my stats here:
*International student at UC Davis
*Major: Biomedical Engineering
*GPA 4.0/4.0
*95 quarter credits completed, 17 in progress
*Transfer Prerequisite: fulfilled
*Activities: part-time graphic designer/animator on campus
founder and president of the digital art club
a lot of other activities that are not very competitive
*Essay: Plain and boring.
Hi @chilimango. My daughter was accepted to UCLA last year as sociology major comm college transfer . Her only EC activity was a part time food service job. Her GPA was 4.0. Pre reqs and IGETC complete . No TAP or honors classes. Her roommate in transfer dorm this year a different major but like my daughter only EC activity was a food service job. She was also a 4.0 gpa. I think you have every reason to be optimistic regarding your chances. Best of luck to you!
School: UC Davis
Current Major: Electrical Engineering
Applied to: Henry Samueli School of Engineering - Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.8/4.0 (25th percentile of accepted)
Extracurriculars:
Professional fraternity (held officer positions). I emphasized my ability to organize events and manage people as an officer.
President/co-founder of political club on campus. We canvassed for a campaign and held discussions. It was focused more on interest/discussion than an impact club.
Volunteer for a political campaign during the summer, went to conventions and helped run fundraisers.
Formula One club team member
Work Experience:
-Blockchain/IoT Forensics summer researcher for a project funded by the National Science Foundation
-Business Applications summer intern for a medium sized (7k employees) cybersecurity company
-R&D intern for a startup
Other projects:
-front end web developer (unpaid) for a construction company
Hobbies:
Dancing (lots of past performances)
Lifting (participated in competition)
IGETC/Major requirements: both completed by end of spring
Applied to: UCB (EECS), UCLA
Weaknesses:
Essays - while I feel like I did leave a piece of me on those essays, I feel like I didn’t rip out my heart for them. I could have done better. I was just scared of sharing personal stories about myself. (6/10)
I’ve applied to 4 schools (UCI, UCLA, UCB, UCSB) so far… only heard from Irvine and they accepted me with regents. I applied to UCLA w/ TAP so I’m thinking based off of UCI’s decision my chances of getting into LA is pretty close? Idk honestly I’m just super anxious and being in quarantine doesn’t help.
GPA- 3.8
Major- Sociology
Major prerequisite- finished last spring (4.0)
Igetc- will be completed this semester
@Gopanthers19 , I’ve heard we can’t really make those kinds of assumptions. Sometimes there seems to be no rhyme or reason between what one UC does and what another does. I hope you’re right, though, because my son (in a different major) is in the same boat.
So how many of you actually fill out the alumni scholarship application? Were y’all aware of that scholarship at all before they sent us that invite email?
