UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

At my CC, 1 course is articulated on assist.org for 2 courses at UCLA. Does that mean I’ll receive credit for both classes?

Ok so I have some pre read to do for Berkeley still. I’ll have only one semster or calc done after this year, apparently one class needs to be taken at Berkeley and I won’t have either one or both of the English pre reqs done. But this is all after the full year at the time of application I’ll have almost none of them done. I also will most likely be missing breadth requirements too. And I saw on Berkeley’s website there was something about not being able to be admitted as a junior transfer (which is what I am). And the assist thing only works for community colleges but I’m coming from an out of state 4 year college.

@embemonkey: Is your CC on the semester system?

@Gumbymom yes it is. My data structures class is articulated for both comsci 32 and 33

@embemonkey: Since UCLA is on the quarter system, then 1 semester course at your CC will fulfill the 2 quarter courses at UCLA.

@Ohm888 Hey, do you mind PMing me real quick. I have a question.

I have this same issue. This scares me

Just received a call from UCLA today at work. I was accepted into Site Lite and will be attending this upcoming Saturday. Pretty siked about this as CCCP Scholars have high admission rates.

Hi everyone! I’m a junior transfer from a CCC
Major: Pre-Psychology Alt: Cognitive Science
GPA: 3.87
Major Prep GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Completed
Pre-Reqs: Finished for Psychology, CogSci pre-reqs will be finished Summer 2020
EXTRA: leadership roles in community service clubs in HS, journalism and psychology clubs at CC, Retail Job

My extracurriculars aren’t that spectacular and neither is my overall GPA, I’m really nervous this time around. Everyone in this thread so far looks like strong, well-rounded applicants. Rooting for all of you!

Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.81
Major Prep GPA: 3.7
IGETC: Completed by Spring
Pre-Reqs: 2 required in progress for Spring, along with some recommended
EC’s:

  1. Tutor For CCC Math Department
  2. Volunteering at Retirement Community for 100 hours
  3. Software Internship at Silicon Valley Semiconductor Company
Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSB, UCI, UCM, UCR, and UCSD

How sure/unsure should I be of my chances?

Hi everyone, good luck in this process. I’d love some help too!

University: Out-of-State large state school
Major: Ethnomusicology, Alternate: Comparative Literature
GPA: 3.893
Pre-reqs: all Ethnomusicology completed, Comp Lit will be completed by end of Spring 2020. Done English, math, foreign language requirements. Done science class with lab and two honors humanities classes (not sure if these will count as they’re listed as honors seminars on transcript).
ECs: started my own literary arts magazine with publications and workshops, co-managing editor of honors literary arts magazine, private study group for musicology with two faculty members, research assistant on Mexican-American writing, job as Involvement Advisor on-campus, internship at literary arts non-profit, internship in public library district, and accepted to prospective graduate program in musicology. I also met with Ethnomusicology and Comp Lit faculty members at UCLA when I visited in June and they all expressed interest in working with me, but not sure if that gives me any worth.

I’m hoping to double major in Ethnomusicology and Comparative Literature, so I’ve done ECs for both!

hey I’m currently at a cc trying to transfer for sociology but feeling super defeated since my journey at cc hasn’t been the best… feeling hella behind and lost! anyways ucla seems like a long shot but has been my dream school since day one! any advice?

i think you should still definitely apply and just go for it!! college admissions aren’t solely determined by gpa and high grades!! also talk about your struggles in your essays so they can better understand and also learn more about you

Chance me?

Hi everybody. I am planning on applying to UCLA for Fall 2020.
Major: Computer Science and Engineering
GPA: 4.0
IGETC: No
Major prerequisites left: 4 classes
I have about 75% of my prerequisites done. I am actually a freshman at community college, but I have a lot of AP credit and I took one class during the summer. I currently have 45 quarter units and I will be completing the rest by Spring 2020.
Extracurriculars: 5 different computer science organizations
I was wondering what my chances are for ucla as I applied as a Freshman last year and now I am trying as a Junior level transfer.
Also, for the engineering kids, did you guys take honors courses?

GPA: 3.39 after fall semester which will be cake
Major: Pre-History
Major Prep: Will finish this fall and am currently at a 4.0. One of my major prep classes was also honors.
TAP: Yes, I will be taking my 5th certified honors course either winter or spring. The honors philosophy course I took will not count so I have to take six now.
EC: Honors Transfer Program, Alpha Gamma Sigma, UCLA CCCP Scholar, STOMP, MESA for a year until I left to pursue history as my major, work part-time and sometimes 40 hours a week.
I am a first-generation student from a dangerous environment full of drugs, prostitution and gang wars. I will be transferring with 70 units if I do get into UCLA which is dope. I have also received dean’s list twice and an upward trend of A’s since last Spring. Hoping I get some financial aid as my dad owns two properties and my parents income bracket is in the $90-$100k. We live paycheck to paycheck so I don’t know how this will translate to them.

Also received the Board of Governer’s fee waiver these past two years, and while in MESA I finessed them from a $1000 Osher scholarship.

Hey guys, I am a two year transfer applying this fall wondering if I’ll be able to get into UCLA.

GPA: 4.0 (3.76 Straight As at UCSD for a Quarter)
Major: Molecular Cell And Developmental Biology
TAP: Yes
IGETC: Yes
Major Prep: I will have one out of three bios completed, both gen chems, one semester of organic chemistry, stats, calculus one by fall. By spring, I will have completed either two or the entire bio series completed, both gen chems, one semester of organic chemistry, stats, and both calculus. I will still be missing the second semester of ochem, entire physics series, and possibly a semester of biology. Are my chances very low due to missing so many major prep?
EC: A lot of clubs/volunteering

UCLA is a top but I feel as if my chances are looking rather slim-

Major: Psychology
GPA: ~3.9 from CC, 3.77 from previous 4-year
IGETC: finished fall 2019
Major Prep: will finish by spring 2020 (just need Calc)
EC’s: Last year I was part of college’s ASB/events crew, ASL club. Currently not involved on campus but working 20 hours a week. Looking to start volunteering/getting more involved. Tons of medical ECs in HS though.

Hey guys, I am looking to apply to UCLA for Fall 2020 and I was hoping someone can help guide me in choosing what major to apply for. I originally intended to apply under Business Economics, but knowing I have one major requirement left after Fall, I am unsure of whether I should just change my major to Economics instead. I will have all Economics major requirements finished by Fall, and I hope this will make my application stronger as I do intend to have a 4.0 in those classes. What would you guys do? Economics does have a higher acceptance rate than Business Economic by a few percentages, but I just wanted to hear a second opinion regarding my situation. Thanks!
