Salutations everybody,
I’m also applying for Fall 2020, albeit I think I have a rather low chance for admission. I’m a second year studying at a community college.
Major: Economics
Overall GPA as of now: 3.85
IGETC: Will be finished by Spring 2020
Major Prep: Will be finished by Spring 2020
EC’s: I really don’t have many extracurriculars. I was apart of my cc’s honor society, AGS, for my first year. I also work a part-time job which takes up about 16 hours a week. I also was a treasurer for a couple high school clubs and that’s about it. I would be really shocked if I got in lol.
Hey! I think you would be better off applying as an Economics major. I know a friend of mine transferred into UCSD without finishing the calculus series and I even asked the admissions office to confirm if we have to finish the major prereqs for admission in which they said no. It is preferred, but I don’t think it’s required. However, this is UCLA we are talking about and being the top UC, I would say you’d have a higher chance if you can finish your major reqs by the time you transfer. This is my advice but you should call the admissions office to make sure. I ate at Feast dining hall yesterday as I helped my girlfriend move in(she got accepted as a freshman for 2019 fall) and some graduates told me that econ/bus econ are some of the toughest majors on campus. Many drop out or switch, specifically business econ. I’m not trying to discourage you or anything but know that it will be tough if you decide to apply under that major. Best of luck! You’ll do great with whatever happens. Your gpa looks really competitive. I’m sure you’ll get in if they don’t require you to finish them.
sorry it’s my first time using this platform. i didn’t click on quote but it’s above ^^^
Missing one should not be a deal breaker, but Biz Econ is a bit harder to get into.
I’m actually going to finish the class during winter intersession, which ends like early February. Do you think they’ll have it by then, or should I just play it safe with my Econ where I’ll have all the classes done with a competitive GPA?
hey!! I think you should apply as economics since your application would look much stronger; however, if you are keen on pursuing business econ then totally stick with that!! if you don’t really have a preference between the two, I would say to choose econ!!
@al1226 yes. Put it up on the TAU page and email each UC with the grade update. That will be a HUGE help.
Hey. I feel kinda out of place asking this question, but is it worth applying if you’re from a 4 year university out of state? I’m aware the UC schools focus more on CC kids, but I was just wondering if this is even possible or worth my time because I’m looking to transfer out. I’m a top student and a leader in an engineering club at my current institution if this helps anyone’s answer. Thanks
yes i definitely think you should apply!! keep in mind that UC admissions can be really random at times so you really never know!!

@thatskinnykid Hello! I specifically wanted to respond to your comment since I was a transfer student last year from the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas! Perhaps I can be of some assistance to you throughout this process. Feel free to direct any specific questions about transferring from Nevada that you may have my way. I am happy to help. I did get into every UC school I applied to besides Berkeley (due to a missing requirement on my end), so I know the process pretty well.
I do want to advise you to be mindful of the OOS costs of UCLA (or any UC school). Although I was grateful to have got into UCLA (I do LOVE the school), I did end up choosing to attend USC due to financial reasons. USC covered my ENTIRE tuition + some in gift aid. At UCLA, I would’ve been stuck taking out ~$12k/year in loans just to cover my tuition and I would’ve been on my own with housing. Don’t let this discourage you from applying if it is your dream school!!! I just want to make sure you are aware of the costs.
Good luck to everyone else applying as well! Don’t let me being a Trojan stop you all from asking me questions about the process. I am always happy to help!

I am applying as Biology as my main major and Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology as my alternative. By spring, I will have both gen chems, both ochems, two semesters of bio, stats, and two calcs. I will be missing third semester of bio and the physics series. I have a 4.0 so far. How is it looking so far guys?
Hi, How bad will my chances be ruined if I get a W in a recommended class (not major pre req) this fall?
Was wondering, how impossible would it be to transfer out of state from a four-year uni? Should I just not even bother applying?
