UCLA Film School transfer

Hello everyone!

I just started at Santa Monica College hoping to transfer in 2 years to UCLA film school. I know it is really competitive and hard to get into the school (the acceptance rate is really low), so I would like to hear the opinions of some of you.

Do you guys think that the more experience I have in the area the better my chances are? For example, I know they don’t accept any type of film when you apply, but what if I start to work as a PA in some shorts, try some internships, try to have an active college life at SMC, work as volunteer in film festivals, etc, they would like it? Of course, all of this plus a good GPA, and good essays.

Thanks.

My friend’s son was one of the 15 or so that got in, junior year (?). He was a student already at UCLA. He is an excellent student, perfect SAT scores, etc. He had a internship with a cable network, and was very heavily involved in improv and other UCLA clubs of that sort. Was really worried that he wouldn’t make the cut, but did. From what I understand experience is essential. Sounds like you are on the right track.
