UCLA Film Transfer

Any prospective UCLA film majors on here? With such a low acceptance rate, I'm wondering how you guys are handling your applications. Anyone?

I’ll be applying for Fall 2010. I’m not worried about the low acceptance rate - I’m going to apply anyway. If you don’t try, you’ll never know right? I’m OOS from NJ.

I’m almost done with my portfolio for UCLA. I’ll be putting my application in on the 1st of November. I included a 4-page script excerpt + about a half page synopsis detailing both the scene & overall story, and a traditionally-made (dark room, etc.) photograph for my folio. My critical essay is in the works (Willy Wonka) and my personal essay revolves around me talking about how and why I’m interested in film studies, specifically screenwriting.

You?

TOKYO FEVER,

Nice to see a fellow prospective UCLA Film major on here. I started my application earlier in the summer, and I’m excited to see how it turns out. I don’t have heavy experience in film, as I haven’t even picked up a camera before. But I will say that my experience in storytelling is what drew me to the world of film, as I feel it is the greatest medium of storytelling.

Anyways, for my creative writing supplement I included a 4 page treatment of an original script I had in mind up until the inciting incident, as well as a solid 1 page scene in the script. My critical essay is about the Charlie Kaufman-penned Adaptation; I plan to write about the screenplay and several of its intentional fallacies (such as the deus-ex-machina in the end). Lastly, my personal essay is about the world I grew up in, my love of storytelling, and how it allowed me to get involved with the world of film–through interning and etc.

Anyone other film transfers on here?

I agree. I don’t wield an extensive background in film either. I started off with the arts - graphic design, illustration, photography, etc. Now I’ll be receiving my AA in English, as I wanted to broaden my overall view of storytelling in general before diving in to film. I also believe that film is the greatest medium of storytelling, which is why I’m transferring to UCLA. =-)

It seems as if we have about the same appraoch in regards to the application.

What other schools are you applying to? I’ll be penning applications for Loyola Marymount, UT Austin, Chapman, and hopefully a plausible program in NJ if I’m not accepted to the aforementioned schools.

And what age are you? I don’t know the average age of students enrolling. I’m nineteen.

hey guys I am a tv/film production transfer from chapman looking to either transfer to UCLA or LMU…do you guys know anything about transferring into LMU…I already know UCLA is quite tough to get into
