UCLA Financial Aid

Cool fijeeboi, I'm only seeing Scholarship Recognition Award $$$$, and then the Federal stuff right after that. Gratz to you on the Cal Grant and University Scholarship!

Thanks man

Looks like first round is on you. ;)

I got 23k in aid

15k in gift

The rest given in this

Federal Work Study
Federal Stafford Loan +
Federal Perkins Loan +

Anyone see the regents scholarship on their fin. aid status?

I have a recognition award, but i'm pretty sure thats not the same..

I got 11k which consists of grants and the recognition award.

I'd love that much in aid... I got 4900 in scholarships and the remaining 18k is coming from loans. I hate having a job!!!

id kill for 4900 in scholarships...it's gonna cost 25k

having parents with a high income sucks...actually strike that im very greatful but even a $1 would have been nice

"having parents with a high income sucks...actually strike that im very greatful but even a $1 would have been nice"

As far as the way financial aid is handled, I completely agree. I'm responsible for myself when it comes to paying for school, but I received $0 for my fin. aid package. Also, if I wanted to show a true $ for my parents' income in the 08-09 year, it would be significantly lower than what was showed in 2007 because my dad will be retiring soon.

I wish there was a way to fix that flaw.

Well.. I plan to live off campus and I have NO safety net. I wish my parents could help me, but the reality is I make more money than they do. I was planning on quitting my job in the summer... I guess I'll have to rethink that, now.

warrior: Isn't there some kind of appeal you can do showing that your dad will be retiring and will be making less money. I would look into that.

I talked to a couple Fin. Aid offices and they said they'd need to see proof..and well...until he retires, there really isn't a way I could show that.

edit: But with that said, I still plan on talking to the fin. aid office at the schools I get into (waiting to hear from berkeley) some more and seeing if there's any way to squeeze out a few dollars. thanks for the advice.

Calgrant doesn't appear on mine, eventhough I applied to calgrant on time. Anyone know if they are still processing that or is it already in the gift aid?

They have their own method of calculating financial aid. I have no idea how it works. At some schools I got the cal grant at some I didn't. I got 19k in aid from UCLA but no pell grant? Which is weird.
