ilivefree
when did you turn in all your paperwork??

if my financial aid does not show on urca, and i sent in the things they asked (tax forms, w2s, and verification form), how long would it take for me to know how much i’m getting???

need to know to make a decision on where i’m going to submit my sir

ccforumaq: can you see your ePAL?

well, right now i can’t even login because the website is closed

but i’ll see if i can when it’s available

sorry, ucrucla, i turned in my fafsa in january. but there was a booboo that i had to fix so it held me up.

i can see my efan now, by the way. and epal.

this is crazy…i just checked my epal for ucla…they’ve given me no gift aid…how come uci gave me $21,000 and ucsd gave me $20,000, but ucla isn’t given me anything…i thought it should be pretty close to what other schools are offering me…all they’re offering is federal stafford loan, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, and a Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.

btw, i was one of the people who was RANDOMLY chosen to send in the verficiation form and w2s

i called and left a message for the financial aid office

what’s the deal here??? NEED HELP!!!

wish i could help but i can’t even view my epal. it says student and parental contribution is 0 but i might be in the same boat as you and they might give me all loans. which would suck cause uci gave me 16,000 in grants.

i don’t know if i was one of those who was randomly chosen to send in my verification form, they requested it after i sent in my SIR

I made $2850 in the previous year, and UCLA expects me to pay 1400 of it as “student contribution.” My parents contribution is 0 by the way. I’m from a poor family. :(

@ccforumaq: I didn’t send in my SIR yet, but I too was randomly chosen for the verification form when I got admitted, and they jacked up my parent’s EFC over 10 grand than the estimated FAFSA result. They’re supposed to get back to me within the next 2 days. I don’t like their financial aid office.

nacho27,

I asked my financial aid counselor about that, he said I failed to add thirty something thousand dollars that were stated in my parents income tax on the FAFSA. I come from a family with five kids and I get nothing… I suppose, my parents do make too much money. What sucks even more is that most scholarships is granted for those with financial aid need. So lame.

Want to go rob a bank with me? I heard it’s the cool thing to do now with the current recession.

^ Sorry to hear about that. But I’m down for plan B haha

Hahaha, yay! You are the first to say yes in being an accomplice with me. We will succeed in this mission, somehow.

Anyway, are you picking UCLA over Cal?

just call the FA office

Haha woohoooo =) I think I’m leaning more towards LA… I feel like I’d be a lot happier there in all areas of the school, plus I’m from socal and a lot of my friends go there already. The only thing going for Cal personally is its academics/prestige, and that’s about it. I won’t know my financial aid estimate from Cal until I submit my SIR + verification form (ugh), so either way the financial aspect of both schools kind of sucks.

What about you? Is LA where you’ll end up?

I hate those verification forms. I wonder why how they choose which students to send those in, via computers? Whatever.

Yes, I’m going to UCLA. I didn’t get into Cal… I was at UCLA on Saturday and this man was sitting near the union store told me to put on a skirt he was swinging back and forth. Awkward… and needless to say, creeper! Hahaha.

Where in SoCal are you located? No where in the boonies, right?

so i don’t know guys…i’m kind of scared/****ed about my ucla financial aid situation…i don’t understand why they are giving me nothering…

like i said uci/ucsd both gave me ~$20,000

btw, i was at the ucb orientaion in orange county’s double tree hotel…i brought up the issue with their financial aid person…she said that they might have discovered something i didn’t put down on my fafsa…but i put everything honestly. oh, she also said that ucla goes ahead and changes your fafsa information meaning that when other uc’s verify your financial aid status, they see an updated status, and they change how much they’re giving you…I’M FREAKED OUT AND ****ED…how am i gonna pay for my schooling!!!

was anybody here at the UC Berkeley Orientation at the Orange County Double Tree Hotel???

i’m in the same boat as you ccforumaq.
first it said my parental and student contribution was 0 then it shot up to 20,000.
uci gave me 16,000 in grants. ucla finaid sucks. my family had less than 0 after paying for our living expenses and now they have to pay 20,000 for ucla!! this is BULL

i called them and they told me that even though i have gotten offers from other schools with more money, they have not verified…meaning that they potentially will end up doing the same thing that ucla is doing now…the FA counselor said that ucla just verifies before rather than after u start school

also, she said ucla automatically requests verification from people who report a negative income/savings…personally, i think that this whole RANDOM check is not really random…it’s ucla just checking people who reported a negative income…meaning that if it wasn’t negative we might have had this issue…but then again, they would eventually verify

so, pretty much i have to find scholarships/job/other fin aid resources…along with some other people who are in the same boat as me

ccforumaq,

I’m not sure if I agree with that negative income/savings statement. I knowingly filed for FAFSA that I will get close to nothing because of my parent’s high income. They pay the government over 75 grand in taxes this year. The only reason that I applied is because I come from a huge family, thinking that they will consider this factor. Evidently, they don’t.

Edit: I was also selected to send in a verification form.

same here, my family paid quite a large sum of money in terms of taxes

jennn, if i may ask, how much is ucla offering you as gift aid?
