Im currently an English major at Pierce College and I'm wondering if any of you out there know if UCLA's foreign language requirement has to be completed at my CC or if I can finish it there.

I thought about calling UCLA, but i'm not sure it would do any good since i'm slightly doubtful about asking for help anymore (a counselor at my college just pulled up assist.org and showed me what I could've looked up myself!) She also told me it's an absolute requirement and I have to finish 3 years of Japanese to get into the English Major at UCLA...is she just insane?? :p

Please help!! I have a 7 hour gap of time btwn. my English Lit. class & Japanese (@ 7:00-9:30 pm) 2x a week, and I really have to take the Lit class, so it would really help if I can just take Japanese when I can work it into my schedule better...

Hey I go to Pierce too.. cool.
But yea, you have to finish three semesters of a foreign language + two more semesters of a foreign language or foreign literature in translation, or simply just five semesters of a foreign language.
You don't have to finish all of them by the time you transfer, but as with any major (and esp. because English is an impacted major) you should try to complete as many as possible.

Yeah. Honestly, my friend got into English at UCLA without even STARTING her foreign language (she had enough from high school to fulfill IGETC, but apparently it didn't count for English? I'm not 100% about the specifics). So eh. It's possible.

Got a question.
I heard from my counsellor that all international students do not have to take Foreign language classes to fulfill the UC foreign language requirement. Can someone confirm this?
