UCLA Foreign Language Requirement

Does UCLA require that students enroll in foreign language courses beyond the standard 3 years taken at a high school? I successfully passed 3 years of high school Spanish. Will I have to take the placement test at orientation and then take more courses in Spanish during my four years at UCLA?

yes.

10 characters

must reach level 3 in foreign language at UCLA, or equivalent with a placement test or by passing the AP exam

I think UCLA has the only engineering department where foreign language is not a requirement....praise allah!

Praise Allah.

so how's the easiest way to pass out of, oh lets say spanish, if we have no AP credit and no placement test? Which classes do we have to take?

Spanish 1, 2, and 3 (3 quarters worth). Or any other language for that matter.

how is the language placement test for like spanish? how's it structured and is it easy?

I have the same questions as collegegirl but for the French placement exam. How long is the test? Are the questions multiple choice or will we be required to write a mini-essay of some sort? AHH, I'm already feeling the pressures of college lol.

well i took the spanish test already at 101, its pretty easy and straightforward. for spanish, we took it at the covel computer lab and it should take about 20-30 minutes to complete. its all multiple choice with fill in the blanks and also like a few passages where you had to answer a question regarding the passage. it's easy. but i plan to take chinese 1 maybe this fall or something
