UCLA Freshman Admissions for Computer Science Majors

How competitive is freshman admission for the Comp. Sci/Comp. Sci and Engineering majors? I am able to find admissions data for transfers, but I haven’t had any luck with freshman data.

Thanks

this is for Engineering overall.

CS admission rate is under 10%.
4.00 unweighted median GPA, 1540 average SAT for Engineering, and I believe it’s 1550 for CS applications.

The following CS Freshman data was posted by @10s4life the UCLA forum champion.

The admit rate for CS for the fall of 2018 is 8.2%. The average CS act score is a 35 and the SAT is a 1550 average.

Here is the link to publicly released admit rates. Scores are not provided. https://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/seasoasa/2018-UCEE-Report-1.pdf

Note computer engineering was 6%. That was due to the fact that Computer Engineering admits were held to the same standard as CS. Yet the admit pool for computer engineering was considerably weaker because students thought this would be a “cheat” to CS. This is because they take many of the same courses as CS majors so admitting weaker students would cause them to perform poorly in curved classes.

Also note that electrical had a 21% acceptance rate. That is because EE has a stronger applicant pool and a large number of spots. That is because EE has the highest drop out rate of any major. Many students leave EE for letter and science because of low GPAs.

You should choose a major out of interest since switching is not easy and they are all tough admit wise.
