UCLA Freshman Alumni Scholarship

Seniors who have applied to UCLA, don't forget to apply for the Freshman Alumni Scholarships!

You don't have to be a legacy to get it (the name is confusing because people think you have to have parents as alumni instead of the fact that the scholarship is called "Alumni" Scholarship because the Alumni Association donates the $$ for it).

Great perks that go along with the scholarship.

Applications are due 2/12.

yeah i already got one...if i fill out the form

so many essays...

u only have to choose 2 out of the 3 right?

you only choose 2 out of 3. theyre not that hard actually...

But you have to write a total of three essays: the mandatory one and two out of the three other questions.

whats the topic for the mandatory one?

Hey, you guys - this could be the easiest money you ever make. What do you have to lose? I hope I don't have to hit my kid over the head to write a couple of essays that would save me big bucks, but I probably will. ;)

The mandatory question is:

Describe the three characteristics of leadership you value most. Discuss whether you believe you possess some or all of these qualities, and describe an experience where you developed and/or demonstrated some or all of these traits.

Then...

Please respond to two out of the following three questions and check which questions you are answering:
1. Reflecting on your personal experiences and/or circumstances, tell us something about yourself not already or sufficiently communicated in your scholarship application that distinguishes you as a scholarship candidate.

2. If you could have lunch with any famous person, either living or dead, whom would you choose and why? Describe your conversation at lunch.

 1. What do you believe are the three most challenging issues facing high school students today and what solutions would you offer to solve these issues?

i want to see you guys at state finals cuz ill be volunteering there! and im phone banking too haha so maybe you'll get a call from me encouraging you to apply for the scholarship! =D

geez its the 6th and im just starting on this app for the scholarship.... man these essay questions are really lame and boring, i mean could they have thought of anything more cliched and boring to write about or what, in other words, the essays suck because i cant use any of the essays i wrote for college on them.

anyone know about if the recs can be the same as the ones our teachers sent to other colleges?

Yes. Just make sure that it doesn't say "I recommend blah blah for university" and make some changes of course.

It's an opportunity for $4000-$12000; if you can pass that up because you find the essays lame and boring, and you can't use your college essays, that's your problem. Wait till you get to college; you won't be able to reuse most of your essays.

Yes, don't be like me and not apply for any scholarships due to pure sloth. =P

its.......so........hard...... 3 essays !#%R#^%@ man its harder than applying to college and the topics, why couldn't they be like "write about something in your life?" instead of topics that make you have to think real hard to come up with something good. gosh.

yea really.. why cant it be like the berkeley scholarship application.. just one simple essay =(

The second one looks interesting though.

"The second one looks interesting though."

agentmichi, i wrote about a conversation with Stalin. it was cuz we just finished putting him on trial in lynch's and we successfully defended his innocence from any crimes against humanity-- quite a feat.

Haha, we did the same thing for European imperialists in Africa ^^;;

i wrote the 2nd one already for another scholarship, woohoo!

The UCLA scholarship is so tedious and boring. I'm bored!

who did you guys pick to talk to for #2?
