Yaaa. So I just got a call informing me that I got the district scholarship of $4,000 and will be moving on to Area and then hopefully State! Don't worry people, it ain't that bad.

Hm, honestly, I don't remember being asked any questions related to politics or global problems...

My interview was two years ago .. I'm sure they had to change the questions :D I was pretty stunned, or rather caught off guard. A current events question is good to make sure the candidate is keeping up with the news, rather than just focused on school and activities.

Good candidates know about the news, which is a central source of information. It's a good ice breaker to use when you're speaking with alumni, and strangers in general.

Hope everyone here who interviewed gets something!

The interviews were so much fun! I really felt that my interviewers were really interested, and they were so nice! I know a lot of people said that theirs was really formal and stuff, but while mine was definitely an interview and nothing like a conversation, I really enjoyed it!

whiterabbit, did you get similar questions to the others or did yours vary? did you have any questions that you felt were a bit difficult to answer?

I got pretty standard interview questions. They were in fact reading them from a paper. I'll try and list a few of them

What is the greatest problem facing the US today.

If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be and why?

W.B Yates said "Education is not filling a bucket with water but the lighting of a torch." What do you think he meant?

What would you do if you won the California lottery?

What are the advanatges and disadvanatges of attending a global Uni like UCLA?

I hope this helps some of you guys!

^thanks!

so nervous! so do they only pic one person per district? yikes, pressure's on!

that bucket question killed me. total bs.

I only had four questions and I totally sped through them so the majority of the time I spent asking them stuff.

i gathered from a 2005 thread about this that they like, make you tell them a joke or something???someone please comment on this

This is absolutely the best interview question to ask business majors, and maybe people in other fields (or even any interview in general)

I know people who were in this scenario.

Recruiter: Do you consider yourself as social?
Student: Yes
Recruiter: Okay, tell me a joke.
Student: silence, stunned, trying to think
Student: Uh ...
Recruiter: smiles
Recruiter: write down something
Recruiter: Okay, let me ask you another question ....

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

^yeah, i read the 05 thread

i thought that if i did get that q, i'd say some popsicle riddle. you know those ones on those popsicle sticks? those are ftw

had my interview today! hope i did okay

encumbrance...what types of q's did they ask...completely random ones or agbout your ec's goals, etc? thx in advance

I had my interview yesterday.
4 interviewers, 3 questions - the explaining WB Yeats quote (... I'm actually really sick of that quote now because they used the same one at UCSD's Scholars' Day); the what's-the-largest-problem-in-the-US; and a "What was your biggest leadership failure?"
That last question sucked. A lot. I answered it - but I don't know what they thought of me because of it.

yeah...pretty much be prepared for anything. the alums are all pretty nice, though, so you have no reason to be nervous. if any of you guys have interviews coming up, i went through all three rounds of interviews last year, so feel free to ask me any questions you have!

Do they ask you about your career plans or about your extracurriculars at all (as in the standard interview)? Or is it all concentrated on more thinking questions?

My D had no questions at all relating to her academics, activities or goals. She said there's no way she could have prepared, as the questions were all out of the blue ones that had to do with meanings of quotes, riddles and what ifs, as if they wanted to see how quick, articulate, creative you are, how you think and perceive things.

I received a call today telling me I received the 4,000 district scholarship too!

The questions were pretty out of the blue, but if you're a good ad-libber and have some crazy impromptu skills, you'll be fine :D Good luck!

I had my interview today! :)
Did anyone else here get interviewed in Irvine?

i had my interview today in walnut creek
crazy!

Interview today, call this afternoon - I GOT IT! YAY!
