UCLA Freshman Alumni Scholarship

good job guys! good luck at regionals!

so, i won one of the $4,000 scholarships. i found out today. does everyone who wins a $4,000 one go on to compete in the Area competition? or is it just a selected few?

i believe three people in each district win the $4000 scholarship

then the top 2 from each district continue to the area interviews

Did anyone else get told they had to commit to UCLA by April 16th to get the award? My D's caller mentioned that, and I don't quite understand!

do they let you know if you DONT win, or should you just assume if you haven't heard by the next day that you didn't win...

Hmm. In my district, I the director told me that I should wait for a call until the latest, this Wednesday. (Had my interview on Saturday). But I got my acceptance call for the scholarship on Sunday. Where/when did you interview?

My D was told she would be advised one way or another in 48 hours. She was interviewed Saturday, no word yet today.

i had mine yesterday and the man said that he'd call either last night or today.

still no call.
however i have heard of many people who win and their call is later than expected.

so, i still have hope.

Anyone that was interviewed in Costa Mesa on sunday get a call yet?

I interviewed in San Francisco yesterday afternoon and got a call about 5 hours later

sparkle-
was your's actually in san francisco?
or in walnut creek?

i guess they could be two different districts

got the money

but i don't think i got district; only 1 out of 4...

i'm strangely disappointed

I'm from San Diego....anyone gotten a call yet? It would just be nice to know one way or the other so I could consolidate my choices lol....

thanks :)

Anyone get a call yet who interviewed in Pleasanton?

hohum

yes my interview was actually in san francisco

okay, so I won the regional one, and the lady said it was $1,000 (I won't be advancing to the state level though). So my question is, is this scholarship renewable, and are there any other incentives (don't mean to sound greedy, I'm just trying to finalize my options and this is kinda important). THANKS!

I got a call from some student congratulating me on getting a scholarship, but she was assuming I had already been notified of hat I got, when actually, I've no idea..... hmmm, I hope someone else calls soon?

I had my interview last Saturday and won my District- going on to Regionals. They asked me some pretty obscure questions, the weirdest being "what activity have you done that you consider to be the biggest waste of your time?". I had the TOUGHEST time with that! The WB Yeats quote was great, super plug for IB.

Does anyone know how many people TOTAL win? My district person told me that 10 people will be interviewing in my district, with 2 going on to state, but how many "win" at state? Just wondering.

Good luck to everyone!

This is from the UCLA alumni site:

Renewal Service

Overview

Begin your service requirement in fall quarter and work gradually toward the May 13, 2008 deadline. You must complete 30 service hours, three of which must be for the Alumni Association to renew your Alumni Scholarship.

Were any of you told you had to commit to UCLA by the 16th to get the Alumni scholarship? D hasn't even received all her financial aid packages from other schools, so it is stressful that they want her to make a decision so soon. I haven't read that any of you were told that - I wonder why they told my D she had to?
