UCLA getting harder and harder to get into? Is it even possible anymore?

Ugh, so I know UCLa is getting harder and harder to get into each year......the number of applicants is insane.
And that time of the year is rolling around--admission decisions.
CHANCE ME? PLEASE.

Let me give you my basic stats:
SAT- 670 writing, 660 reading, 720 math = 2050 composite
ACT- 31 english, 30 math,24 reading (SUCKS), and 27 science = 28 composite
SATII- NONE
GPA unweighted: 3.9
GPA Weighted: 4.6

-I was a member of key club my freshman year.
-Rotary interact member for junior and senior years.
-California Scholarship Federation member for junior and senior years.

-Junior Honor Guard
-Link Crew freshman leader (I FORGOT IT ON MY APP THOUGH)
-CSUSB MASS program scholar

Essay was about how I have one home in my heart, another literally.
And poverty in the Philippines.

I also mentioned other interests: scrapbooking, photography (I'm an assistant for basic class), biking, blogging, babysitting, flute, piano, etc.

I'm battling anorexia (though not extreme), which I mentioned as well.
17 years old--83 pounds.

ACCEPTED AS CHANCELLOR SCHOLAR AT UCR, ACCEPTED AS MASS SCHOLAR AT CSUSB, ACCEPTED AT UCSD AS BIO MAJOR.

PLUS WE CAN JUST CHAT. ARE YOU NERVOUS FOR ADMISSION DECISIONS, FEARS, WHY YOU WANT TO GO, ANYTHING.

SHOOT. (:

Like you, I’m waiting for my decision as well. But I agree, knowing that UCLA received 70k applications is quite stressful at this time =/

SAT: 1750 (didn’t matter because of better ACT)
SAT II: 760 math II, 680 U.S. history
ACT: 30 composite
UC GPA: 4.45
UW GPA: 3.93
AP: U.S. history (4), calculus AB (current)
ELC: Yes, though I don’t think it makes any difference when it’s UCLA
Household income: <25k
hook: 1st generation college applicant, though not sure if Chinese is URM
Rank: school doesn’t ranks

EC/ Awards: little compared to most I’ve seen on CC

 • co-found a school activities-based club, currently treasurer from junior to present, also used club budget to fund the school’s first Winter Formal
 • QuestBridge finalist
 • volunteered at local library for 40 hours total
 • worked as tutor for 200 hours

My school is a relatively small and new inner city charter school. This is my school’s 2nd graduating class. Assuming I end up being admitted as indicated by the 2 invites I’ve received from UCLA, I think it’s mainly due to context review.

Some people did applied to UCLA last year, but none were admitted. I think since that was the school’s first graduating class, they were being compared to applicants from other school instead. But this year, we’re being compared to last year’s class instead. Although most people would consider my class schedule to be week, it was the best my school can offer.

I believe the bottom line is that you’re staying on top of your grades and made use of the opportunities that are available to you in school, though I’m not sure whether or not being a Questbridge finalist factors my application as well.

Good luck to the two of us! =) only 3 days left

@Labyrinthus: It’s nervewrecking isn’t it? I’m having problems at UCSD and UCR, so UCLA would be my lifesaver…the system is crazy random though. I’ve seen amazing people be rejected…and my income is 140k, it’s just that I have sibilings and cousins in the philippines who need money…so I lose part of my tuition pay…xP

Let me know if you get in, what is your major?

I’m a bio major…great…heavily impacted.

I declared as Computer Engineering. I guess we’re both on the same boat, lol.

both of you will be admitted based on UC calculator. good luck!

^what exactly is this UC calculator? (I know I’m such a noob lol) Anyways, I calculated my score to be 283 (4.22W-GPA, 750CR, 760M, and 720W); does anyone know what is a fair score for a “likely” applicant? just want to know if I have a chance after being waitlisted to UCSD

I’m not even sure myself what the calculator is, but I don’t want to base my entire conclusion off of it. Then if I think I will be accepted, I’ll just end up devastated if I get rejected. Legitly, what are my chances against another applicant? or the average applicants?

@musicremedy: You should be fine, but UCSD already notified applicants. I got in there just fine.

Also very stressed!!
UW GPA: 3.94
W GPA: 4.29
SAT: 1850
ACT: 30
Decent amount of EC’s
Around 600 volunteer hours, pretty good essays ;____; Friday’s the day. I really want UCLA!! Applying under their Business Econ major. Btw, of anyone knows anything about that, feel free to fill me in (ex: class sizes, how are the professors, internship opportunities etc!)

Stress!! Good luck to everyone; even people I’m competing against!!:)

@KaiLun: We’re all in the same boat, good luck to you. Post here friday, let us know if you got it. Your ACT is a lot better than mine XD I fail at super fast paced tests like those :P

Just a couple more days then it’ll all be over.

Angel: haha no I’m terrible at the SAT’s! Especially the SATIIs! I hope we all get in! fingers crossed

Chance me, please:
SAT I: 2140
SAT II: Math 780, Chem 700, Bio 650, Chinese 780
GPA: 3.45 uw, 4.10 w
APs: 5 taken (4 and 5’s), 5 in progress
V-hours: 230+
Has been taking courses from community colleges: 6 courses, straight A’s.

Desperateucmom:

I want you SAT scores!! But your UW GPA seems a bit low. The weighted one is pretty good though :D

here is the link [University of California - Statewide path](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/california-residents/admissions-index/index.html)

if you end up in the 9% then you are good to go for one of the UCs.

^Yep, that’s what the site says but does anyone have more information about what a “fair” UC score for a likely admission at UCLA? just might help alleviate some stress for some of us including myself

On my UC Application portal, I was (coldly) told that I was not within top 9% :-(. I already got UCSB, UCSC, and SLO, but UCLA is my dream school.

Ah, the ELC? I fell in there, but its UCLA mainly that I want to know about.

wait a minute, how do you do this calculating thing?

^follow that thelostone’s link and punch in your stats on the right; tell us your score if you like

I’m only 265 :(
