UCLA good for country; ranked #2

please read the criteria before jumping to the rankings, otherwise you'd be like "this ranking is stupid cuz harvard's not #1"

I believe UCLA's #2 ranking appropriately reflects its mission. I feel the emphasis on social mobility here.

Now, I finally understand the what the guys from the "University of California - Berkeley" forum felt when the London Times THES ranked UCB #2 last year...

what a pleasant thing to see at the beginning of my day...i say we celebrate UC's in general today!

It's refreshing to see a list where old money influence doesn't necessarily put you at the top. Thank you.

Hello my fellow Bruins. This is the second time I have been to this site in like a month. Trust me when I say that I have not begun to miss the widespread ignorance that plagues this site. If everything the people say on this site is true then UCLA grads will all be washing windows for a living and/or living in the gutter. Nope! Instead we are credited in the “real world” as being the super bright and incredibly successful people we are. Still, I remember a time when this site was so addicting to me that I was eager to verbally fight anyone that had the guts to post such nonsense. Good luck in the fight guys!

Regarding this new ranking system, I think it is great that we are number 2 (Go Bruins!!!!). And although I don’t totally agree with the criteria, I think the rankings have at least some validity. Particularly, I agree with the value added portion. That portion has so much common sense imbedded in it that I don’t feel it is necessary to justify my support of it. While there are many rich students at UCLA, there are also poor students who are obtaining their first chunk of capital in life in the form of human capital. Look at it this way: aside from name brand, what good is an education if the student is not really better off having attended? Anyway, I said I was not going to justify my support so that is all I will say.

Now, I also said I don’t totally agree with the criteria as well. I mean, community service is only mildly important in my opinion. I assume some would argue that it is not important at all. I think the thing to keep in mind is that given this criteria, UCLA is number 2. At the same time, giving the US News criteria, UCLA is number 25. All rankings have specific criteria with which they use to come to conclusions. We can agree or disagree with the criteria all we want but we cannot argue with the conclusions. Given this criteria…

UCLA IS NUMBER 2!!!!
WE ARE BETTER THAN ALL THOSE SELF-RIGHTOUS PRIVATE SCHOOLS!!!
GO BRUINS!!!!

"It's refreshing to see a list where old money influence doesn't necessarily put you at the top. Thank you."

i couldn't agree more.

Who's up for winning a couple more Nobel Prizes for UCLA? I know I am...
