UCLA HOLDs...

I have a HOLD on my MyUCLA, "Failure to meet Provisions". The "Description" is "You are ineligible for enrollment, fee assessment, financial aid, and all campus services".

It's been there for about 5 days now, but I still haven't heard from them in mail/email.

Of course, I'm assuming this means that my admission has been revoked (already working on the appeal).

Does anyone happen to know for sure if this is the case, or if it's not the case?

Pretty weird; my UCLA email account still works too.

Do you know why they revoked admission? It could just be that they might not have gotten all your transcripts. Could be as simple as that.

I'd call ASAP. Just wondering but what did your Spring grades look like? Did you claim to be finishing IGETC and did you actually complete it? Also did you check you Hep B status? I know some Freshmen had holds put on them because they failed to do so. However it said you failed to meet provisions, so I'm not sure that would be the problem.

Well I'm an Iranian Studies major (average GPA of admitted fall 2004 students in this major was 3.18), and my Spring grades were 1 A and 5 Cs. This dropped my cumulative down from a 3.42 to a 3.06, but I didn't have any grades lower than a C.

I told them I'd complete IGETC this summer, which I am. I'm thinking it might be a transcript issue, because my JC didn't send them when I wanted them to because I still had fees.

Thoughts?

I think the abundance of C's is what killed you. One of the things they state is that you can't have any significant drop is performance. Having 5 C's and 1 A could be considered a serious drop. I would appeal it however, as the school never actually states what they consider a significant drop.

Yeah I originally thought that's what it must be for sure, but despite my dropoff in performance, my cumulative GPA is a 3.06.

The average GPA of accepted Iranian Studies majors for Fall 2004 was a 3.18, so I thought it was odd that they'd oust me (after originally accepting me) because of a slight dip below the average.

In my last semester at JC, in classes that I still passed, with grades that won't even transfer over towards my UCLA GPA. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but it just doesn't seem logical.

It doesn't matter what the average GPA for the department was, you were expected to maintain a GPA close to your average. Even so, they're usually pretty lenient and allow people to get 3.0s in their last semester, but you fell quite below that average. Also, you have to complete IGETC by the end of the spring term for it to count for your lower division GE requirements.

Exactly you must maintain not just a cumulative GPA over 3.0 but in your final semester your GPA must be over a 3.0. Yours droped down to just over a 2.0, which is a serious problem. Contact admissions ASAP, but I think you're out of luck. Sorry.

Most of the UCs say that they want you to maintain the GPA that you reproted on your app in the spring semester. Going down more than a whole grade point is not good news at all... you should probably contact them immediatly soon and have and you must have a major excuse as to why your grades dropped so much.

damn, that sucks man. That is a major drop though, 1 A and 5 C's would make you barely above a 2.0.
I hope they don't do anything drastic with mine, I got a 3.0 for my spring sem. 1 A, 3 B's, 1 C. Should've had 2 A's but i never realized that it was 95-100 for an A and I had a 90-94.

As long as your semester and cumulative remain above 3.0 you should be ok. It would not be a bad idea to check with admissions just to be safe though.

Tallywhacker, you should be fine. UCLA doesn't say anything about a 3.0. I don't think the UCs would revoke you unless you MAJORLY f-ed up.

Yeah that's the thing...since there is NO mention of any specific GPA you must have on UCLA's "provisions for admission" (at least not on mine), I figured they were pretty lenient (keep the cumulative above a 3 and don't get anything less than a C, that sorta thing).

It says "maintain your GPA", but I honestly didn't think they'd be too strict with that. My fault for "assuming" though, if I really was revoked.

I mean, if someone with a 4.0 gets a 3.3 during the spring, would they be revoked? If you say "yes", how about if the average cumulative GPA for admits in their major was a 3.2? Wouldn't make much sense to revoke that person, right?

I think their problem is you feel more then a grade point below your average, which is a serious decline in acidemics. Let us know how the appeal goes!

Yep, you were right. Just got the letter in the mail, admission was revoked. I'll keep you guys posted on the appeal.

Hopefully UCD, UCSB, UCI, or UCSD will give me late admission in case the appeal doesn't work.

1 A and 5 Cs at a community college is barely above academic probation material at the CC.

That same effort at the UCs will land you very deep in academic probation with a good chance at academic dismissal. CC is super easy compared to most 4-year schools. And you don't get to carry your CC cumulative GPA into the UC.

Did you really tell UCLA your low grades were partially due to transfer senior-itis? I would've left that out. That is going to sink your appeal chances since you've just told them you're tired of academics. Be very prepared to go for another application cycle at the UC or apply now to one of the CSUs still taking fall 05 undergrad applications to avoid delays in getting your bachelor's.

I think you're going to be in trouble at most of the UC's. I know most of them warn against having a major drop in performance, and you could land in trouble with any one of the schools you listed above. Also as Bouncing Boy said, using "senioritis" might not have made for the best appeal. If you've yet to send it I would reconsider saying that.

Oh man... insert foot in mouth

Sorry about your admissions being cancelled. What did the revoke letter say? I hope your appeal is successful.

Your situation has freaked me out. I think my GPA spring qtr could end up a bit below 3.0 (could be at worst 2 Bs and a C, at best 2 As and a B). Getting revoked from UCLA is my greatest fear. I mean, what would happen to my facebook?

or worse ur potential Degree

No I haven't sent the appeal letter in yet, but I'm definitely not putting "senioritis" as the reason.

Revoke letter says...

"Blah blah blah...Due to the overall decline in your academic performance during the spring 2005 term, your academic record no longer meets the standards for admission to UCLA. Therefore, we are withdrawing our offer of admission to UCLA for the Fall Quarter 2005..."

I still met the spring '05 provisions for all the other UCs I applied to, so hopefully at least 1 of them will consider taking me late. And in the meanwhile, working on the UCLA appeal.
