UCLA Honors Program (how competitive?)

I have a 4.7 UC GPA and a 32 ACT score. Assuming a decent essay, what are my chances for their honors program?

Thanks!

100% .

then what’s the point of the essay?

To get to know you

Why would they want to get to know you?

So that they can give more personalized help.

Thanks. I just submitted my app. Let’s hope your right TCBH :)

so… the gpa/ rank (meaning the requirement) is more important??
then what about the essay?? since i am not sure what to exactly write on the essay, I am worried about it… can anyone clarify please?

The essay doesn’t gauge your admission - you’re in if you qualify academically and submit the app on time.

Two questions, if anyone can answer them:

Am I supposed to get a confirmation email after submitting my app?

What does it mean when they say “midnight of May 1st” for the deadline? Would I be able to submit it today or should I have submitted it yesterday?

I submitted this morning, but never got a confirmation email, so I’m just a little worried right now…

11:59:59 May 1st

OH THANK GOD. You’ve just made me so much happier!

But the essay is a requirement, right?
One more thing since I am not sure abt the UC systems, if I don’t get in to the honors program this time, can I apply again after the first quarter if I meet the requirement?

For the honors program, I think you only need a 1420 SAT (math+critical reading). Of course they don’t superscore either. But the essay doesn’t matter at all. It’s just there for show (in other words, its there to make you think its competitive and selective when you really only need the SAT requirement). Or maybe if you have less than a 1420, the essay could make up for that. Who knows. Anyways, if you haven’t done the essay by now, then this probably doesn’t even matter.

And besides, the honors program here is kinda nonexistant. I was accepted to it and we do the same thing, but just take a few required classes and get an honors degree. They took away early registration as a benefit of being in the honors program, so there aren’t any perks anymore to being in the honors program. And if you really want an honors notation on your diploma, do departmental honors (basically honors in whatever you major in). You don’t have to be in the honors program for that. Its probably more rewarding and a little more prestigious according to what I’ve heard.

I’m not sure when you can apply, but yes, if you do well enough at UCLA (and IIRC the requirements are especially strenuous) and you’re still interested you can enter.

You can check out library books for a quarter instead of 2 weeks (all my books are due back in 5 months right now, so I was able to save ~$50 on books I needed for class) and you can get more personalized counseling. There are a couple other things I think, but I can’t remember them off the top of my head.

“you can get more personalized counseling”

Very true. I did forget about that. Maybe I should go to the counseling office more

“You can check out library books for a quarter instead of 2 weeks (all my books are due back in 5 months right now, so I was able to save ~$50 on books I needed for class)”

How have I not heard about this?!? >:O It would have helped me out.
