UCLA Honors Program: How does it work?

Is anyone planning on applying (or already applied) for the College Honors Program?

Does this involve a thesis at the end? Or is it just honors coursework by completion of necessary units? I'm confused... This is different from the Individaul Major Program (Honors), right?

I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could explain the honors program to me. I've logged onto their website and read the info, but I'm unsure how the program works. (Side Note: I think transfer students need 28 units of honors courses.)

Thank you!

Good question...did you look under your major though in the catalog? That would have specific info for you. And yes, I applied for the Honors program. Will write back later when I've investigated more. I'm curious as well.

I just checked my major through the catalog like you suggested.

It says and I quote: "The honors program provides exceptional students with the opportunity for individual research culminating in an honors thesis. Requirements for admission include a 3.0 overall grade-point average and a 3.2 GPA in the life sciences core curriculum. After completion of all requirements and with the recommendation of the faculty adviser, the undergraduate affairs committee confers departmental honors at graduation."

So, I think I answered my own question. So a thesis is required along with the research and a presentation in front of the affairs commitee. Wow, I thought it was only honors course units. Now I don't know if I want to do this... The dread of writing a thesis!

Oh, it's a piece of cake! I look forward to it....lol. Anyway....yes, so there is departmental honors and then you need to check out of the honors for your school as well. Is that also L & S?
