UCLA Honors Program

Can any current students tell me their experience with the honors program? I read the benefits off the website but am curious abt actual experiences. Are the class sizes smaller, more interesting? Do you find you have more access to professors, advisors or research opportunities? Or is it just a lot more work? My D got in but is unsure it’s worth the extra effort. I know they eliminated priority registration a few years back but hopefully the program has other advantages.

This is something a lot of other students will echo. Do not do the honors program. It’s much better to do well in “normal” classes and get a high gpa for Latin honors and dept honors. Normal classes give you access to professors and the library perks don’t matter as most students don’t need books long term. It’s much more work and most students who do research are just normal students. The transfer out of honors rate is pretty high.

@10s4life - Thanks! Do you know if the class sizes are smaller at least?

Some are but tbh large classes are no big deal.

Even if you are in honors, the majority of the classes you’ll be taking (especially your major classes), will not be honors sections.
