no you dont have to. i didnt sign up for it.

I opted in (you don’t have to). I only did it because I hear that it’s easier to opt out than it is to opt in, so I figured I’d try it and if it wasn’t for me I’d opt out. From what I gather, there is no penalty for canceling, and since now was the best time to opt in, I did so. The benefits are listed as (taken from [About UCLA Honors Programs](http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/honors/services.html))

Some seem more practical than others.

I just got a call from UCLA and asked about the honors program. Yes yo do get all the aforementioned benefits, but you obviously have to do extra work. You must complete 28 honors units which can either be done through honors courses or by talking to your professor and filling an honors contract (basically doing extra work for a non-honors course).

haha alright im not gonna deal with it…ucla will be a challenge as is

So does anyone know if grades from this semester (Spring 2010) are included in calculating the GPA for the required 3.75? I just got a call too, and asked him, he said it was included, but on the website for the honors program it says “Please note that this is the GPA that you reported on your UC application - not your current GPA.”

I ask because I have one F on my transcript from 4 years ago, so it brings my GPA down to a 3.71, but I retook the class this semester and received an A, so my GPA is now a 3.92.

I emailed the honors program, they never responded…

Thanks for your help!

I asked that too, bc I don’t have that right now but I’ll have it at the end of this semester. He said they base it off of what you reported on your application, so if you don’t have a 3.75 right now (or more so when you applied) you have to wait to transfer and have a 3.5 to apply to the program.

Ok thanks!
