Hi everyone. I would love to get accepted into UCLA as a transfer student. I am kind of an untraditional student, so I was wondering if anyone could look at my story and stats and come forth with comments. I’m a realist, so don’t hold back haha. I will apply this upcoming Fall and hope to transfer next Fall in 2019.
I went to a university right out of high school for a semester and a half, and dropped out halfway through the second semester due to depression. I also didn’t want to pursue Biology anymore and with all of that combined, I just came back home. I decided to go to a community college instead of going back. So far in CC I’ve gotten all As, and haven’t taken any breaks. I started CC in the summer right after dropping out, and even did winter classes (we’re on semester). So, at university I got a B- as my lowest grade, but it’s a transferable course so it kind of messes up my hope of getting a 4.0.
Right now this is the situation:
Major for UCLA that I would apply into: Communications Studies
IGETC: Will be completed by Fall 2018
Current GPA including university transferable classes: 3.81
ECs: Communications intern for a non profit, Volunteer and Tutor with Reading partners for 9 months, have a youtube channel where I’ve produced and edited videos for over 5 years and accumulated over 1.5 million views (I don’t know if this is an EC), Achieved proficiency in HTML, CSS and C++ over a course of 2 years
Prereqs: Will be completed by Fall 2018
Units: 68 semester transferable by Spring 2019 (is this not enough?)
If I get all As in the rest of my classes by Spring 2019, I will have a 3.88 GPA. I am really worried that my Ws from dropping out will affect me really negatively and it doesn’t help that UCLA’s communications dept. is highly selective. I know what I’m going to write for my personal insight questions and I’m pretty confident about displaying how I will contribute to the cultural diversity and intellectual curiosity of UCLA. I didn’t think about applying to UCLA until this year, so it’s not like I’ve been dreaming of this my whole life. Any feedback or comments, or even suggestions of things I could do to help my chances or just feedback on my current situation is very welcomed and appreciated.
