@jane Ahhhhhhhh! It hurts my very soul!!! haha

i will just say that UCLA thought me worthy once, i hope they think me worthy again.

my stats are mediocre with the exception of my past work experience/ec’s and essays.
those 3 things are 10/10.

@zephanda yay! i’m from OCC too. lol.

it’s sad that i don’t see a lot of Comm majors here in CC. I also checked last year’s UCLA acceptance thread and was trying to look for people that got in Communication Studies in UCLA but I think I only found one. Not a good sign, at all.

Im pretty sure not everyone knows about CC. So dont worry. And I go to saddleback/ivc…we are neighbors haha

Moorpark College anyone?

@jessy “all except 1 which I am doing now”

Doesnt that mean your good and finished. UCLA wants you to finish by the Spring term ya?

@Bruin321 yeah that’s what I was thinking. Comm is such an impacted major, I just find it idk, weird that not a lot (from the hundreds of applicants) are here on CC. I found about 3 or 4 of them that got accepted last year and crap, my gpa can’t even compare to the lowest gpa accepted. sighs oh well.

and hello neighbor! lol

edit

@jessyls - finally! i see competition! haha jk wow you have a great chance at UCLA, in my opinion.

@Bruin321 haha Yes sorry! That is what I meant. :)

@hellostranger57 What are your stats? I can’t find them! :P

Sorry for sounding ignorant, but what does one do with a communications major? Is it for broadcasting or entertainment?

Also, one of my counselors was telling me that major is very impacted and that you can apply to similar majors and get in with a very low gpa. If you wanted to maximize your odds for UCLA, why not major something closely related to communications and likely get in?

Major: Communication Studies
GPA: 3.78

Essays: Decent
Prereqs: Done
Completed Units: 72 by the end of spring semester

hellostranger57,

I think you have a good chance. I definitely know your gpa is under the safety level, but you are still a solid candidate. I also think your ECs are good, which will make you stand out a bit!

@thebigshow Well, communications is pretty broad. I chose to major in comm because of it’s versatility as opposed to majoring in advertising/marketing/public relations/broadcast journalism. it covers the essentials of all the mentioned fields. After graduation, I plan on focusing in public relations or advertising field.

honestly, i don’t know what would be the closest major possible to communication studies in UCLA. english, perhaps? I dont think so. Well, in my opinion at least.

I was thinking some sort of combination of linguistics and something else. He was telling me that they practically had the same graduation requirements, save a couple classes. But you could get in with a gpa hovering around or below 3.0.

Awww see, I didn’t know that! I remember meeting with my counselor last fall and I was asking her if I had a good chance at UCLA. She told me that my gpa was pretty solid for the major even though it was impacted. She said that having 3.5 and above was competitive enough. Had I known at that time that 3.93 was the average admit gpa for my major then I would have applied for something else.

I asked her if i should just apply for a different major to increase my chances at getting in UCLA but she assured me that I was competitive enough for Communication Studies. Ugh. The moral of the story: Don’t believe everything that your counselor says.

My counselor sucks Grrr!

^
All CCC counselors hope for the best, but as we have seen, are not very reliable. Communications is super hard to get into at UCLA, ah…I’m really sorry ):

There is no need for sad faces! No decisions have been made yet! :)

Yes, most counselors are ■■■■■■■■. I only had 2 counselors that I trust. The rest I would never take advice from-ever!

I am sure some people got in with a 3.5 gpa. I know a few people who got into ucla’s busines econ with a 3.5.

Anyone have a link to the 2009 UCLA Transfer Acceptance/Denials. I saw the USC one and it was really helpful in using to predict how I match up with prospective transfer students that were admitted.
