UCLA Housing Options

Hi guys, would anyone like to give me some insight on on-campus housing? Particularly about the university owned apartments (best ones).

I was also interested in the University Apartments, but I guess so is everyone else because there are no more available, at least that’s what the Housing people told me.
I emailed them weeks ago asking if they reserve some apartments specifically for incoming transfers and they said no. They said that they don’t have any more apartments available. :frowning: I applied for housing already and I still listed my top choice was an apartment.

^What?! They ran out already? So its either just dorming or off campus?

There will be students graduating and leaving their lease. Hence, there will be room.

@appleslices Guess so. :frowning:
A few days ago, I found a webpage that showed what dorms and apartments were available. It showed that there were zero apartments left, but tons of triples available :frowning:
The webpage isn’t working anymore though

@HopingToXfer I hope that’s the case. I asked them about the availability for the upcoming school year though (Since current students get to sign up first)

Bruinwalk!

I was looking into dorm rooms yesterday and I had no clue about there being triples. At first I was disappointed but the more and more I thought about it triple dorms sounded fine. I suppose I would prefer a double but i’m happy with whatever I can get as long as my roommates don’t have the exact opposite habits to me. My goal is to stay in a dorm for 1 year in order to meet people then move into an apartment in the second year.

I am currently in University owned apts… It’s nice because they are cheap in comparison to the dorms, but they lack the social aspects that the dorms provide.

@Citiz3nerased: I’m in Gayley Towers this year and luckily got a space in Gayley Court next year. which Apts are you in?

@earell92 : im currently in Margan (the one across from In and Out)
I didn’t apply for UA again, because I didn’t think I would get a spot I wanted (though it turns out I guess us transfers did get spots) and I thought I would give non-university apartments a try haha. However, I still haven’t found a place yet though so err we’ll see how it goes.

What room type are you currently in? did you get the same for next year? I’m in a studio =/

@Citiz3nerased and @earell92 Was it hard for you to get a university apartment? Was that your first offer or did you submit a CAR?

also @Citiz3nerased do you have a single studio?

@sumbum: Actually, my original offer was a 1 bedroom with 1 roommate. However, because so many students accepted their housing offers, we got moved into a studio together. When looking on the FB group, there were numerous students who only listed Apartment room variations on their application as preferences, but yet ended up in a dorm room =/ Of course, that’s just a small representation, lol. Just list different Apt room types and hope for the best!!

@citiz3nerased: I’m sharing a studio this year with one other person and next year will be in a 4person/2bedroom apt. luckily I avoided being placed into an apt. with 5+ppl in 510 landfair.

@sumbum: My first choice was a shared studio nd my last choice was a res hall double. However, when you sign the housing contract there is a clause in there stating that you may be switched to another living situation if the university finds that it is necessary to do so.

^^Thank you for the info. my choices were variations of apartments and studios, my last choice was a dorm.

@Citiz3nerased
@earell92

how much did you guys pay for the places you were/are living at? was it furnished and utilities included? thanks in advance!

@ Evelynn: I am in a studio with 1 roommate with a cost of around $7800. This includes furnishing, utilities, and a parking spot.

pretty much half the price of a dorm!

I would kill to be placed in a dorm… There aren’t many pros besides the social aspect over the other options but it seems like the quintessential college experience! I would implore all the other transfers to just dorm for one year then see what you like.

@earell92 do you know anything about Gayley Court?
