UCLA HSSRP

@cheesegenius when did you get your email?

5:30ish, i think

oops, actually, 4:30

Awwww…looks like they’ve sent them all out for today. Congrats to you!
Mind posting your stats?

Did any of you who got in participated in MESA?

Thanks:) I’m actually really surprised I got in with this…
SAT: 1990
PSAT: 192
ACT: 28
GPA: 3.8 (unweighted), 4.6 (weighted)
Classes: Mostly AP
EC: CSF tutoring, chess tourneys, and
tons of tennis (3 years Var.)

What was your personal statement about? And did you have programming experience?

i think i wrote something about what i wanted to achieve with engineering, like sustainability and stuff. For experience, I actually went to three other summer camps my sophomore year; ucla sciart nanolab, uiuc wyse, and sciarc did. the first two are science related but sciarc was about architecture.

Ummm…@cheesegenius and @PCBaumboy when did you guys submit your applications? I submitted mine the day of. Wondering if the date submitted makes any difference.

like 3 hours before it was due. really in a rush cuz i heard about it like the week before

btw, wats ur stats

Only PSAT: 172 I think. Not so hot
All A’s throughout high school and mostly Honors and AP’s (So 4.8 is what it came out to be I think)
AP’s Taking now: Apush, Ap Physics, Ap Calc AB, Ap Lang
AP’s Taken: Ap World (got a 4)

EC’s

 • Varsity Policy Debate: Club Treasurer 2 years, VP this year, Captain for Policy Team
 • Solar Boat (We build a solar powered boat for a competition)
 • Math Club: Prep for AMC test and other competitions
 • A lot of years of programming in different languages. Multiple projects like text based adventure games and calculators
 • Started an FTC Robotics Team this year. Won 2 awards, made it to regional championships, nominated for other awards. Wasn’t school related so literally started from the bottom lol

Other

 • Attended UCSD COSMOS Last summer. Did research project in ball-physics/kinematics.

Essay
Talked about my interest in Astronomy and wanting to get a better understanding of research.
Talked a lot about my research experience at COSMOS and went in depth about what I really worked on
Similarly with robotics, went in depth of a main one or two projects I worked on (fundraising and programming)
Ended with my love of astronomy, talked about some prior research I had done in black holes, and how all the stuff i’ve done has made me want to pursue engineering and research

@albert29 did you get in?

Do any of you guys know the chances of getting selected by a faculty advisor after initial selections?

no idea, but it says its likely to be chosen so probably pretty good

@crowdedkitchen nope :frowning: you?

Congrats to those who got in ^__^

Anyone applying as a sophomore? I applied for both HSSRP and Tech Camp… then instantly regretted it. The FAQ states that both applications would be reviewed separately, but I’m a little doubtful as to whether they’re really going to do so, especially considering that it’s the end of March and Tech Camp hasn’t been completely filled up yet.

…The wait is unreal. :c

Another sophomore here. Did the same, and regretted as well. Do not plan to attend Tech Camp even if get in.

@albert29 nope. where else did you apply to?

I’m a sophomore and I got in (or at least I received my initial acceptance letter).
