I applied to UCLA last november for fall 08.

My gpa is 3.8. Ill have all of the IGETC breadth requirements completed, along with all of the prereqs for bizecon with the exception of one (second course in calc).

I indicated on my app id take calc II in the summer even though i know that requirements needed to be completed by spring.

I finishe the IGETC and major prereqs all within 1 1/2 years. I just graduated from hs in 06 and have been working full time since i moved out my senior year (long story short i alluded to this all in my personal statements).

Will the fact that I completed these courses and obtained a high GPA in such a short time span give me a fighting chance? Ive read that the prereqs for impacted majors should be completed in some places and must be completed in other places.

In case it makes a difference my math history at ccc is:
placement tested into trig (received an A)>challanged and tested out of precalc (went straight to calc)> currently in calc I for spring 07.

In addition I will be signing the tap agreement.

Ive worked my tail off this past year and a half all while working full time as a retail manager...(like i said i mention these things in my statement subtly)

My older brother was rejected by UCLA when he applied as a BIO major (impacted). He had a 3.9ish (higher than .05 but less than .09), with great EC’s, military experience (field medic), several letters of recommendations from his prof’s, good personal statement, several internships, and many academic awards.

The reason he was most likely rejected was due to the fact that he had not completed organic chemistry prior to transfer.

I say you have a very good chance with TAP. In my Calc 2 class over summer, there was a guy who was in your exact situation. As long as he completed Calc 2 with a B or better, he said he was admitted as pre-bizecon. Unfortunately, he dropped so I never inquired more. Be prepared though, if you’re planning to take calc 2 over the summer, it’s probably the toughest out of the three calculus courses. Good luck!

in a TAP program presentation I went to a couple days they mentioned that they consider coursework completed during the summer–I think this might be another key benefit of TAP. You might want to double check on this though.
